Oman Broadband keeps an ambitious target of reaching to 130,000 houses by the end of 2016 as it already has access to 60,000 houses in Muscat. The national broadband company of the Sultanate aspires initially to assist the government to achieve its larger goal of e-government and serve the national aspiration of serving the people with the smartest possible broadband facility. This was stated by Hamood al Rashdi, Manager Business Relationship, during the opening of the Oman Broadband Exhibition at the Salalah Tourism Festival (STF). He called the occasion as reaching out to people and raise awareness about the service.

Information Technology Authority (ITA), has announced the registration for the 5th edition of HM Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment until August 21, 2016.

This year, the award contains 11 categories distributed among government, private and SMEs sectors. The government sector entities can compete in eight different categories, namely: Best e-Service including (G2E, G2B), Best e-Services via Mobile including (G2E, G2B), Best whole of government Project, Best service supporting doing business, Best e-participation for decision making initiative, Best e-transformation achievement. Whereas the private sector’s large organisations can compete in two categories, namely: Best Public eService and Best Public Mobile eService. Private sector ICT Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) can participate, in one category: Best SME eService.

A Partner of Choice for Oman's e-Government Strategy

Ooredoo signed an agreement with the Information Technology Authority ( ITA ) to build and operate the Omani government's Next Generation High Speed Network (NGN). Leveraging on Oman Broadband Company's fibre network, the new world-class NGN gigabit speed and high capacity bandwidth will deliver better public services by integrating and connecting over 60 Ministries under one fast, reliable and secure platform, allowing for greater efficiency and data-sharing.

Registration for the 5th edition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Government Services will start on Monday.

The award is organised and supervised by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and targeting government and private institutions, including small and medium enterprises to encourage them to develop electronic services and honouring the outstanding projects in the provision of electronic services.

Citizens and residents can now activate their Resident or ID card at one of the Civil Status service centres of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and benefit from electronic government services, said Colonel Ali bin Saif Al Marbu’i, director of Civil Status at ROP.

The system, called ‘Tam,’ is an electronic certification service provided by the National Digital Certification Centre at the Information Technology Authority.
