The 5G network launched by Omantel, the first integrated telecom services provider in the Sultanate, was greatly welcomed by the telecommunications market.

By launching this technology, Omantel aspires to enter into a new era in the world of telecommunications and information technology.

Subscribers in various parts of Muscat, Al Batinah North and Al-Batinah South can now get massive speeds up to 1Gbps.

Muscat Municipality and Oman Telecommunications Company Omantel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to employ the information technology solutions and services in developing municipal services and making the two cities of Muscat and Sohar smart and sustainable.

Eng. Isam Saud Hareb Al Zadjali, Chairman of Muscat Municipality and Sheikh Talal bin Said Al Mamari, the CEO of Omantel, signed the memorandum on behalf of both Muscat Municipality and Omantel, in the presence of Abdulsalam Mohammed Al Murshidi, the chairman of the governing council of Omantel, in the presence of officials from both sides.

The Ministry of Technology and Communication in Oman together with Oman Broadband and Ooredoo has launched the high-speed Oman Government Network (OGN) in Muscat.

This is an integrated and safe government network that meets the future demands of e.oman projects, like the G-Cloud, the official Oman eGovernment services portal, the National Data Center and other e.oman infrastructure projects.

Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT, BSE: 507685, NSE: WIPRO), a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company and the Ministry of Technology and Communications (MTC), a government authority of the Sultanate of Oman, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a Center of Excellence (CoE) for open source.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Salim bin Sultan Alruzaiqi, Chief Executive Officer, MTC and Sanjeev Tayal, Vice President and Business Head, Middle East, Wipro Limited. Under this MoU, Wipro and MTC will collaborate to build, deploy and sustain the CoE as well as accelerate adoption of open source technologies in the public and private sectors of Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) signed an agreement with Al Madina Development and Supply in coordination with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) at Knowledge Oasis Muscat recently. The agreement was signed by H E Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO, ITA and Sheila H Jamal, CEO of Al Madina Development and Supply.

The agreement includes development of the ministry’s official portals, Oman Tourism, Experience Oman and 113 electronic services. The eServices include 84 services provided to citizens, 17 to government institutions, eight for employees and four services for businessmen.
