Companies wishing to submit tenders for projects announced by Muscat Municipality can now access online, instead of going to their offices to do so.

Called Isnad (Arabic for ‘support’), the e-tendering system has been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Tender Board, and is expected to provide multiple benefits in terms of facilitating and simplifying tendering.

Enables employers to register work contracts of employees and more

The Oman Ministry of Labour announced yesterday that a new electronic service has been launched to register the work contracts for non-Omani manpower.

The service which started on 3 November, enables the employers to register work contracts for their expatriate employees through the ministry’s electronic portal.

COVID-19 has seen a move towards digital services more than ever and has seen a speed up to use Artificial Intelligence technology

Enjoying the 50th global position in e-government in the UN index, the Sultanate’s focus areas now are telecom and human capital, which stand at 63 and 72 positions respectively.

The Ministry of Technology and Communications (MoTC) is studying how to improve these two sectors.

This comes in line with Oman’s 2040 vision, which considered this sector as a supporter and enabler of economic sectors

Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the ministry is committed to implementing the eGovernment strategy as a priority goal in line with the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

The Sultanate has ranked fifth in the Arab world in the list of countries with highly developed electronic governance systems, according to a report issued by the United Nations.

A statement issued online by the Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "The United Nations ranked Oman fifth in the Arab world in the list of countries considered 'very advanced in the field of electronic government' across the world for the current year 2020, according to a new report issued by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs affiliated to the UN."
