Abu Dhabi and Dubai are “well positioned” to be at the forefront of becoming full-fledged smart cities, with several initiatives, particularly those involving 6G technologies, being tabled to help the transition to a futuristic digital economy, a top researcher at the Technology Innovation Institute said.

Both emirates have launched several programmes to advance research and development into the upcoming sixth generation of wireless networks, which is attracting top players globally, said Thierry Lestable, executive director of the AI and Digital Science Research Centre at Abu Dhabi's TII.

The benefits of harnessing technology to enhance road networks in the country are countless

Drivers to be assessed using smart device, arm band to avoid accidents, enhance safety

In a first-of-its-kind Tram Driver Monitoring system in the world, Dubai Tram drivers will be assessed in real time using artificial intelligence to prevent accidents and enhance safety of passengers.

With ‘Safety and Environmental Sustainability’ being one of the key strategic goals, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Keolis MHI and VirtuE Therapy and Research has implemented the third phase of trials of the use of AI Technology to assess Tram Drivers in real time and ensure passenger safety.

The Dubai Digital Authority (Digital Dubai) is a recognition of the power of data to improve lives and create economic benefits. Data is the foundation for the smart city Dubai aspires to be and the emergent digital economy the country is fostering. Established by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the authority oversees Dubai’s information technology, data, digital transformation and cybersecurity. The authority is the umbrella body for Dubai Electronic Security Center, Dubai Statistics Center, Dubai Data Establishment and Smart Dubai Government Establishment.
