One of the most technologically advanced cities in the world will collaborate with DMT on various smart city projects

UAE capital Abu Dhabi and China’s Shenzhen have signed a Twin City agreement, under which both parties will share knowledge and collaborate on smart city projects across multiple areas.

These include infrastructure, city planning, green mobility, transportation, advanced technology, autonomous solutions, sustainability, and urban development.

Smart cities harness cutting-edge technologies to enhance the quality of urban life, promote sustainability and well-being, and improve efficiency. These innovative urban environments leverage data and connectivity to optimise services, infrastructure, and resource management.

According to research by Frost & Sullivan, the investment in smart city projects is predicted to reach nearly 50 billion USD by 2025 in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Smart city initiatives in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have positioned them as leading global cities in this field.

RTA chief Mattar Al Tayer says strategy hinges on driverless transport, AI, Big Data

Smart infrastructure and self-driving transport powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data will save billions of dirhams, Dubai’s transport chief told the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Tuesday.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said: “Dubai has been at the forefront of investing in such smart systems and getting great results.

Dubai has been ranked among the top 20 smart cities as per the IMD Smart City Index 2023 that assessed smart infrastructure and services covering various aspects such as health and safety, mobility and governance.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai were the only two cities from the Asia region which made it to the coveted list while the rest were from Europe or Asia-Pacific.
