Transforming Government since 2001
Public Servants in Brunei have been encouraged to get behind the national theme United Towards Achieving 2035 Brunei Vision.

A Government statement issued to mark Civil Service Day said the vision saw Brunei among the top 10 nations in the world within a quarter of a century with a population that was educated, skilled and with a high quality of life.

It is envisioned that the Public Service would play a role in enhancing productivity and realising the goal.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam expressed his disappointment on the use of e-Government strategy and Information Technology (IT) in the Sultanate 10 years since its implementation with a budget of B$1 billion.

His Majesty also saw the need to reactivate the Client's Charter (TPOR) as it is one of the government's agendas.

The ruler delivered a titah during the 17th Civil Service Day celebration at the International Convention Centre (ICC) yesterday.

The Home Affairs Ministry is now on a track to install a Wide-Area Network (WAN) and become a digitally-connected entity under the e-Government framework once the work to upgrade and install Local Area Network (LAN) in all respective locations is completed.

The scope of work to install LAN networks includes all departments under the ministry, including district-level branches throughout the country.

It was estimated that about 2,000 networks points will be installed in 86 identified localities.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) will upgrade its network infrastructure to integrate and connect all its departments in improving their communication processes following a signing ceremony yesterday.

The $2 million contract was signed with two private companies to upgrade its network system in supporting the implementation of e-services as well as renovation of its IT Service Centre.

System Analyst Jamhali Yahya at the ministry told The Brunei Times that the project involves connecting the whole ministry comprising 10 departments with the infrastructure of a local area network.

As we are going to fully "utilise" e-government on which the Government has been spending millions of dollars on "e-government it self' has been "made" as full pledge department, as members of the public we would like to send letters to the government agencies on matters of public concern like traffic lights, jam prone areas, drains which are blocked and flooding the roads (like Jalan Bunut and part of Jalan Gadong) - we are facing problems - the problem is we could not find the email addresses.

I would like to see and suggest that email addresses should have its own directory (like the telephone directory) after all there are only 12 ministries and about 50 plus departments.
