In its quest to support the development of an internet-enabled society, the Omani government has signed an agreement for the establishment of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).

The pact was signed here on Sunday by the Information Technology Authority (ITA), which is spearheading the country's development of e-services with Gemalto Middle East, a leading provider of digital security services.

The Information Technology Authority (ITA) signed two agreements yesterday. One agreement relates to the expansion of the Government IT Training and Certification (GITTC) project and the second agreement relates to increasing the trust of citizens and businesses when utilising the e-services.

Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Chairman, ITA Board of Directors, signed the agreements on behalf of the ITA in the presence of Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, ITA’s Chief Executive Officer, Talal Sulaiman al Rahbi, Deputy CEO of Operations at ITA, ITA employees and other distinguished guests.

Her Excellency Dr Rawiyah Bint Saud Al Busaidiyah, Higher Education Minister, approved the procedural tools for management of special documents at the ministry in the presence of HE Dr Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archive Authority (NRAA).

Rawiyah said that the system of special documents at the Higher Education Ministry is an important step to put in place an e-system for documents and archives.

Eligible voters have until September 28 to get their identity cards required for the polls

Oman's Ministry of Interior has extended until September 28 the deadline for eligible voters to get their identity cards suitably configured to enable them to cast their ballots electronically in the upcoming Majlis al Shura elections.

Since the start of the year, mobile vans of the Ministry have been making the rounds of government establishments, provincial offices and population centres across the sultanate in a bid to encourage voters to suitably upgrade their ID cards for the country's first electronic ballot.

Dr. Rawiyah bint Saud Al Busaidiyah, the higher education minister, on Tuesday cleared the regulations and procedures for management system of special documents at the ministry. The minister announced her decision in the presence of Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, chairman of the National Records and Archive Authority (NRAA).

In a statement, Dr. Rawiyah said that approving the management system of special documents at the Higher Education Ministry is an important step to find e-system for documents and archives at the level of the Sultanate.
