Therefore, various government and private bodies in the Sultanate are organising a wide range of activities and events related to children and their families. Muscat Festival 2012 is according special attention to children in a bid to provide good educational and entertaining tools in both Qurum Natural Park and Naseem Garden. Omani child always has self-confidence and ability to prove to everyone that he can succeed. The festival’s activities provide an atmosphere of fun and entertainment in a very educational way in addition to featuring various aspects of the Omani culture.
To serve the government’s desire to see Omani nationals playing a vital role in all areas of employment in the Sultanate, the Education Ministry (MoE) strives to achieve this aim by offering quality education to Omani children and youth. The Ministry’s commitment is reflected in its various educational programmes including the Basic Education System which is designed to meet the demands of modern science and culture in the information age.
In 2007, the MoE took a significant step when it launched Oman Educational Portal on the Internet as part of the Sultanate’s move towards implementing the e-government system. The portal 1328094828905098700 provides easy access, communication links between its users who are students, teachers, parents and other administration staff at schools and the ministry. It enables them to quickly pass on information, ideas, experiences and views on various aspects of the educational process.
The ministry represented in Oman Educational Portal participates in Muscat Festival 2012 by opening a special booth at Qurum Natural Park. Its participation comes as part of the ministry’s awareness campaign which started in October 2011. The campaign aims at familiarising the public of the portal’s services and its significant role in better serving the educational process.
Oman Educational Portal offers the employees some additional opportunities for using and developing their skills and potentials in the workplace. The portal contains a database which helps employees at the education sector in decision-making process, best implementation of their plans, programmes and projects. It also facilitates improving the efficiency of educational planning and allows the ministry to evaluate the results of its development programmes easily.
Through the portal, users can get access to several types of applications such as School Management System which transformed administrative tasks in schools into electronic form. It also provides information on schools, students, teachers and ministry's employees and offers different electronic services for them.
Commenting on the participation of Oman Educational Portal in Muscat Festival, Mohammed al Abrawi, Educational System Supervisor at the Directorate-General of Information Technology, Ministry of Education pointed out: “We are participating in Muscat Festival 2012 to continue the ministry’s awareness campaign to enlighten 1328094760605093800 the society in general and beneficiaries concerned of the portal in particular about the major services offered to them. This campaign serves the ministry’s aim to affirm the importance of e-learning and involving new technologies in the educational process. The ministry strives to familiarise the public that Oman Educational Portal marks an easy communication tool between schools and homes, parents, children and teachers”.
Oman Educational Portal shortens the distance and gets transactions completed in a speedy and simplified ways as it eliminates the unneeded procedures. The efficiency of educational planning and evaluation methodologies are considered and implemented. Moreover, many administrative applications and services used by MoE employees have been e-designed in the portal; teacher transfer, vacations, exams, supervision, training, qualification, budget and many others are combined in one portal.
The Educational Portal is achieving continuous success as the take up rate has increased steadily, so far, 38,286 teachers, 6,515 administrators, 393,148 students in 699 schools and 298,886 parents are currently using the system to carry out daily transactions. As a matter of fact, the Educational Portal has provided transparency, accuracy, speed, availability and cost reduction to the ministry.
The portal obtained several prizes some of which are the following:
- First prize for best website in the Sultanate of Oman, 2007.
- First prize for best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman, 2007.
- Third prize for best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman, 2008.
- Second Prize for best electronic project in the Sultanate of Oman, Digital 1328094706525091200 Oman, 2009.
- Second Prize for best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman, 2010.
- Prize of Best Arabic e-content in the Sultanate of Oman, 2010.
- Design Innovation Shield Award in the e-Government websites 2010.
- Second Prize Award in ministries category in Pan Arab Award 2010.
- First Prize in the United Nations Award for 2011 for improved public service delivery.
- Middle East Excellence Award (E-Initiative Category) 2011.
- First Prize Award in ministries category in Pan Arab Award 2011.
- Visual Innovation Shield Award in the e-Government websites 2011.
- First Prize in Ministries Websites Contest for the Arab World 2011.
