During the meeting, the council affirmed that the coming year will see the launch of the work at the Supreme Judicial Council’s headquarters and the building of the Supreme Court. It will also witness expansion of courts, conducting reviews for some legislations that will contribute to more flexibility in the litigation procedures. The application of the e-systems at the courts will be a milestone and an important pioneering step towards e-government. The council reviewed the major achievements made during the past year including the opening of the Supreme Judicial Institute which will meet the needs of the justice sector in terms of judges, lawyers, secretaries, notaries public and other legal experts.
The council touched on the achievements made in the infrastructure, such as signing of agreements for adding new court complexes to the existing ones, construction of three courts of appeal, in addition to a number of primary courts, constituting 16 reconciliation committees, starting the second stage of the cases of e-management system; after completing the first consultancy stage. It reviewed the outcome of one year of applying the Royal support for the current budget of the Justice Ministry, which His Majesty ordered to develop the judicial institutions and culminate the efforts made to develop the justice sector throughout the last 40 years.
This Royal support has been dedicated to meet the needs of the development process in terms of the remarkable increase in the number of cases deliberated by the three levels of courts. Thanks to the Royal directives, scores of judges, assistant judges, secretaries, notaries public, more than 500 court officials, administrators, accountants and IT technicians have been appointed in a bid to enable the judicial institution to meet the developmental requirements, the expansion plans and the growth witnessed by the Sultanate. The council expressed its thanks to His Majesty for the continued Royal care to justice and judiciary in the Sultanate.
