PC penetration in the Arab world is poised to record a rapid increase within the next few years, with many of the countries crossing penetration levels of 20 per cent. This augurs well for the various e-governance projects launched by the different governments in the Arab countries, according to Salem Al Shair, Director eServices, Dubai eGovernment. Al Shair was delivering the keynote address at the recently held "Regional Workshop on e-Government" organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in association with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Yemen, at Technology City, Sana'a. The workshop was under the auspices of the Prime Minister of Yemen, H.E. Abdelkader BaJamal, who is also the Chairman of the ICT Executive Committee.

Thousands of customers who have to visit Dubai Municipality every day can now spare themselves a journey thanks to a new online payment facility.

It allows bills and invoices to be paid on the Internet using a Visa or MasterCard credit card or with an e-Dirham smart card. It makes use of a secure Electronic Payment Gateway provided by Dubai e-Government.

Dubai Municipality and Dubai eGovernment have announced a new online payment facility to enable customers to complete transactions online without visiting Dubai Municipality's offices.

The new ePay service, part of the Dubai eGovernment initiative, allows customers to pay bills and invoices online using a Visa or MasterCard credit card or through an eDirham smart card. Customer payments are processed using the secure Electronic Payment Gateway of Dubai eGovernment.
