Dubai Municipality's e-Government project has been dubbed as one of the most successful online initiatives in the region as most of the civic services are now online and customers are increasingly dealing with the Municipality electronically rather than visiting its offices.

Sultan felicitates Mr. Julfar, Assistant Director General for Financial and Properties Affairs. Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said in a ceremony on Sunday that the municipality's web portal has accomplished recently the 700,000th online transaction since it was launched in October 2001. He noted that this was largely due to the user-friendly services the municipality offers online.

The UAE e-Government steering committee, chaired by Dr Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, UAE Minister of State for Finance and Industry, yesterday announced the launch of the electronic portal (e-Portal).

The move will transform a number Federal Government services and take them online. The committee also approved the new e-Government logo and gave the go ahead to the programmes to implement the e-Project, e-Expat, and e-Human Resources Management System.

Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department has set up a data exchange to share immigration information with Dubai and federal government agencies.

The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) faced the challenge of delivering secure inter-agency data exchange in the context of the country's federal structure, says Lt. Col. Khalid Lootah, Head of Information Technology at the DNRD: "Our department is charged with protecting a mass of information on citizens and travellers. However, the need to share this information with other agencies has become a high priority. Our unique solution exchanges sensitive information in a federated environment without surrendering strict control."
