Four agencies have fallen behind in how they use their enterprise architectures, according to the latest e-government scores on the President’s Management Agenda (PMA) scorecard.

The Smithsonian Institution’s overall score plunged the farthest, falling from green to red in the quarterly report on agency progress in meeting the five areas of the PMA. Along with the Smithsonian, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Office of Personnel Management and the Small Business Administration earned red scores.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today unveiled a new look for the home page and major topic pages of its Web site. The changes are designed to make it easier for people to find health information and resources quickly. The CDC Web site address is www.cdc.gov.

The redesigned site has an improved layout, a more powerful search engine, and other features to help people locate needed health and science information more efficiently. The CDC Web site averages nine million visits a month, with an average of 37 million pages viewed monthly.

Announcing this in a press conference on Tuesday, Abdullah Al Shaibani, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Technical Services, said the new ARIS-based (Architecture of Integrated Information Systems) e-Gate which will soon be uploaded on the DM Intranet would help the staff to have easy access to the municipality’s internal data resources.

"To have easy and smooth access to the organisation’s knowledge database means a lot for the staff. They can borrow the best practices in the field of administrative excellence which were previously applied successfully in any other organisational unit," he said.

n what would be the first mandatory use of iris patterns as a biometric identifier on a national ID card, the United Arab Emirates plans to introduce the technology on its ID smart card for expatriate workers and citizens, reports say.

The ID card, launched a couple of years ago storing cardholder fingerprints, will add the second biometric identifier in mid-2007, according to Dubai’s Xpress newspaper. That’s when the UAE will also begin enrolling the bulk of its expatriates, who do most of the work in this Persian Gulf state. An estimated 80% of the UAE’s population of 5 million is made up of foreign workers. These include workers from the Indian subcontinent, who mainly do manual labor.
