The UAE Cabinet yesterday concluded its high level meeting chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and attended by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as other ministers.

The meeting discussed detailed strategic plans of individual ministries, developed following the UAE Federal Government Strategy that was approved in April this year by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Criminal Investigation Department will soon start taking fingerprints of suspects, convicts and those who request 'good conduct' certificates with a new device that does away with ink and paper.

The device will process the fingerprints and is clean, police said.

Various police departments and stations will use the new electronic fingerprinting devices by August and which presently are under trial at the reception of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Ports Police Station. It has been used for people who asked for certificates of good conduct.

A massive advertising campaign was launched on Tuesday to promote Dubai eGovernment's portal www.dubai.ae which the public can access for all online services.

The move comes as government departments accelerate efforts to improve their online services in line with the target set by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 90 per cent of government services online and attain a utilisation rate of not less than 50 per cent.

Visitors to the Dubai eGovernment's new portal www.dubai.ae have given the website the thumbs up.

The one-stop link to all government departments was launched last Wednesday and hundreds of people have already logged on.

Of those, one in four is a resident, 11 per cent live abroad, nine per cent are UAE nationals and a further four per cent are visitors to Dubai. Angel Jwala, 24, who came to the UAE from India a month ago to find a job, said the website is must for those who need to interact with government departments.

Dubai eGovernment, a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services, has announced that it has launched today (July 10, 2007) a massive advertising campaign covering all media outlets and publicity channels to promote its all-in-one online platform www.dubai.ae, which serves as a unified portal for all government services.

The move comes as Government departments in Dubai are accelerating their efforts to improve the level of electronic transformation, in line with the target set by H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, to provide 90 per cent of government services online and attain a utilisation rate of not less than 50 per cent.
