  • India: Andhra Pradesh: Move to start 2,300 rural eSeva centres in State

    Government to launch eGazette on the Internet - Record growth of 41 per cent in IT exports in State

    As many as 2,300 Rajiv Citizen Centres (rural eSeva centres) will be established in the State by the Information Technology Department in the next three months. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave instructions to this effect to the department while reviewing the functioning of the IT promotion and e-governance in the State on Friday.

  • India: Bihar: SBI kiosks opened in three dists

    In keeping with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines to provide Kiosk Banking facilities in villages with over 2,000 of population, the State Bank of India (SBI) has, by mid-September, opened 30 Customer Service Points (CSPs) in the three districts of Gaya, Jehanabad and Nawada under Business Correspondent Model (BCM).

    Of the 30 CSPs opened in the current fiscal till September 18 in the three districts, 24 are operational in Gaya, four in Jehanabad and two in Nawada district. The registered society which is functioning as Business Correspondent of SBI in the state at present and also running the 30 CSPs is Society for Advancement of Village Economy (SAVE). The 30 CSPs opened in Gaya, Jehanabad and Nawada districts have 30,000 customers.

  • India: BSNL to convert Karnataka public call offices into info kiosks

    State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will convert its public call offices (PCOs) in Karnataka into electronic information and transaction kiosks with free broadband connectivity (ePCOs).

    "The ePCOs will have a full-fledged information system with a PC, a webcam, a broadband link and a printer to provide a host of online services in English and Indian languages," BSNL Karnataka circle chief general manager T.S. Kuppuswamy told reporters at the e-initiative launch by state IT minister Katta Subarmanya Naidu here Monday.

  • India: Calcutta: One-stop civic cell for senior citizens

    Senior citizens of Calcutta will soon get one-stop centres to avail themselves of civic services in “homely comfort”.

    All services that do not require verification of records at the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) headquarters will be delivered from the centres, being set up as part of the e-Calcutta project.

    The first e-Calcutta outlet — in Business Tower, at 206 AJC Bose Road — is likely to be commissioned by March, said mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya. Fourteen more are in the pipeline.

  • India: Centre to implement State Wide Area Network for Rs 3,334 cr

    The Centre on Thursday said it will implement State Wide Area Network (SWAN), which will provide connectivity to over 1,00,000 government offices across the country, at a cost of Rs 3,334 crore.

    At the meeting of the Consultative Committee on National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) here IT and Communications Minister A Raja said the SWAN Scheme has been approved at a total cost of Rs 3,334 crore.

  • India: Chandigarh: UT Gram Sampark Centers to start fuctioning from March 17

    Continuing with the vision of the Administrator to provide e-Governance services to empower the rural people of UT, the Chandigarh Administration will start the functioning of 3 new Gram Sampark Centers in the Villages of Palsora, Hallo Majra and Mauli Jagran from March 17.

    The Villages of Khuda Jassu, Dhanas, Kaimbwala, Raipur Kalan, Raipur Khurd, Makhan Majra and Behlana have already been covered under this facility. Gram Sampark Centres in other villages including Dadu Majra, Khuda Alisher, Daria, Maloya and Kishengarh will also have a Gram Sampark Centers soon.

  • India: Common service centers to Aid Rural Poor in West Bengal

    The West Bengal government is setting up common service centers (CSCs) to reach ICT services to its rural populace.

    The centers are part of the Indian government initiative to start about 100,000 similar ones pan India.

    In West Bengal, the centers will be developed by Reliance Communications, which will provide connectivity to all villages in the state.

  • India: Common service centre in Rajasthan starts operation

    Two Common Service Centres under National e-Governance Scheme today started operating at Talera and Barundan villages of the district with finalisation of technical formalities.

    Villagers will be facilitated for payments of telephone, electric and water supply consumer bills and with other essential services like obtaining revenue land records etc. at these centres without plying for it to district headquarter.

    Under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) the Government has sanctioned the scheme of Common Service Centres (CSCs) under which 1,00,000 kiosks are being established in rural ears. These kosoks are equipped with Computers, connectivity and trained and incentivized manpower. These Centres provide public services along with facilities of Internet and E-mail. The Scheme is being implemented on Public Private Partnership model with Government of India providing only revenue viability gap funding. Till 31st October, 2009, about 55, 000 CSCs have been established.

  • India: Common service centres on track

    Completion of 90,000 common service centres (CSCs) under central government’s national e-governance plan (NeGP), which was to be completed by end of September across 18 states, is on track, secretary, department of information technology (DIT), R Chandrashekhar told Financial Chronicle on Thursday.

    According to the him, over 70 per cent of the rollout has been completed in Assam, Bihar, Cha­ndigarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Hary-ana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Puducherry, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and West Bengal. In Orissa and Chhattisgarh, it has crossed the half way mark, Chandrashekhar said just before taking over as secretary, DoT, on Monday.

  • India: Common Service Centres soon for state

    Roughly 400 Common Service Centres (CSC) will be functional within the next year and a half in Manipur. The existing CIC systems will be integrated in the CSC.

    Director Manipur Science and Technology, UC Laishram, conveyed the above while addressing the 39th world telecommunication and information society day celebration at Kangla Hall today. The director said that there will be a CSC for each 6 villages and the CSC will be operated by interested private party. He said that the CSC will provide e-governance services to the people.

  • India: Common service centres strength to go up to 2,50,000

    CSC project off track in ten states after 3i and Comat pull out

    The government plans to add1,50,000 more common service centres (CSCs) to the current proposed count of 1,00,000 according to Abhishek Singh, director (e-Governance) with the department of information technology.

    "The CSC roll out in states will reach 80,000 by end of April and will be complete for all 1,00,000 by June this year. The government is now thinking of having a CSC in each village. It might scale up its target CSC strength to 2,50,000," the official told GovernanceNow.

  • India: Common service centres to generate 400,000 jobs

    The government's common service centre (CSS) initiative will generate around 400,000 direct employment opportunities and as many as indirect jobs in rural India, a top government official said here on Thursday.

    "The scheme was likely to generate over 400,000 direct jobs opportunities as well as indirect employment avenues of a like number in rural India," Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar told reporters after inaugurating a conference on 'Common Service Centres: The Change Agents'.

  • India: CSEs to pave way for e-governance in Meghalaya

    The Meghalaya government has planned to set up 225 Common Services Centres, mostly in rural areas, in a bid to pave way for e-governance in the state.

    The government has issued the letter of intent in this regard.

  • India: Department of Information Technology invites EoIs for providing broadband to 1.5 lakh CSCs

    The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has invited Expressions of Interest from telecom and Internet service providers for providing broadband connectivity to 1.5 lakh Common Services Centres (CSCs) set up by the government in villages across the country.

    Expressions of Interest (EoI) are invited from telecom/Internet service providers (TSPs) for provisioning of broadband connectivity of at least 256 kbps, the DIT said in a notice.

    About 84,000 CSCs have already been set up, which each serve a cluster of 6-7 villages. Initially envisaged to cover one lakh villages, the project was later expanded to cover 2.5 lakh villages across India.

  • India: DIT hopeful of nod for kiosks

    The Department of IT hopes to receive approval for the Rs 6,000-crore Common Services Centre (CSC) scheme envisaged under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), by April-end.

    "The State Wide Area Network (digital link on which e-governance services will ride), the CSC and data centre are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2007. Together they will provide a platform for the National e-Governance Plan. While the SWAN has already been sanctioned, the Empowered Finance Committee has given its views pertaining to CSC and it will now be placed before the Cabinet. We hope that the process will be completed by April-end," a Government official said, on the sidelines of a summit on Infrastructure and e-Governance organised by Cisco and the National Institute for Smart Governance here.

    Over 35000 IT-enabled Service Centres get operational by next month

    Of the one-lakh IT-enabled Common Services Centres (CSCs) that the Government is planning to set up by March 2010, as many as 25195 Centres have already been set up with another 10000 in the pipeline which would become operational by the end of this March. These Centres are being set up across the six-lakh villages in the country at an estimated cost of Rs 5742 crore which would be raised via PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode.

  • India: Election Commission to use neighbourhood centres to enroll citizens

    The Election Commission of India is planning to use the Common Services Centres (CSCs) to provide electoral voter service to rural citizens. These centres will take up jobs including data entry, inclusion of names and others, according to the commission’s statement.

    The electoral rolls are updated annually during the ‘summary revision’. Under the present scheme, while the staff attend to claims and objections received during the annual revision exercise, names of those unable to apply get left out of the e-rolls.
