  • India: eSeva to be merged with Rajiv Internet centres

    The 250 odd eSeva centres serving citizens in 15 cities and 111 towns in the State through a variety of consumer services, will be merged with the numerous Rajiv Internet Village centres covering rural areas and APOnline, a website that offers data on various Government activities.

    These centres will hereafter function as Rajiv Citizens’ Services Centres (RCSC). With this, more citizen service centres are expected to be opened in rural areas, offering the listed services to the rural consumers too who are now getting only a few of them through Rajiv Internet Village centres. A plan has been finalised to open one RCSC for every six villages with Central assistance.

    Financial Information Network and Operations Ltd (FINO), focused on delivery of financial services to the rural population, by leveraging its robust technology and delivery services, today announced its partnership with eGov Services a leading eGovernance services organization headquarted in New Delhi for Common Service Centre (CSCs) projects, across Jharkhand to provide financial services through low cost technology enabled delivery channel.

    The first Common Service Centre (CSC), the single-gateway for Government-to-Citizen (G2C) services, under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), aimed at bridging the gap between government and citizen will come-up in Jharkhand. However, the pilot CSC, to be showcased to Union Communications and IT minister, Dayanidhi Maran, on January 19 has been set-up in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, the worst affected place in India by the Asian Tsunami of 2004.

  • India: Goa: Citizens Facilitation Centre promises to serve

    The proposed Citizens Facilitation Centre (CFC) at the South Goa Collectorate which is slated for commissioning soon promises a plethora of public-oriented services.

    "An exclusive counter to receive various types of applications will be set up at the CFC and the documents applied for can be collected from the same counter after a specified minimum number of days. We will also have a help desk to help people use the application forms," a highly-placed official source told TOI.

  • India: Goverment to Enable Broadband Access for CSCs

    To enhance the reach of e-governance in the country, the Department of Information Technology will facilitate access of broadband to all Common Service Centres The Department of Information Technology (DIT) plans to set up 150,000 new Common Service Centres (CSCs) to facilitate penetration of e-governance further into the country.

    DIT has already rolled out 55,000 of the planned 100,000 CSCs across the country.

    The CSCs will deliver services under the Bharat Nirman, providing support to other flagship programmes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Rural Health Mission, among others.

  • India: Government banking on CSCs to drive e-governance

    Having rolled out 55,000 of the planned 100,000 Common Service Centres (CSCs), the government at both the levels i.e. State as well as at Centre is banking on the national e-Governance Plan (NeGP) to enhance the reach of e-governance in the country.

    To make the power of e-governance penetrate further into the country, the Department of Information Technology (DIT) has now planned to set-up additional 150,000 CSCs to cover all Panchayats as well. The CSCs will deliver services under the Bharat Nirman providing support to other flagship programmes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Rural Health Mission to name a few.

  • India: Government to set up 100,000 common service centres

    The government will set up 100,000 common service centres (CSC) across the country by March 2010, Communications and IT Minister A. Raja said here Tuesday.

    “The government has sanctioned Rs.10,600 crore (Rs.106 billion) for e-governance projects out of which Rs.5,742 crore (Rs.57.42 billion) will be used for setting up CSCs,” Raja said after inaugurating a CSC here.

  • India: Govt approves Rs 5742 cr project for rural service centres

    In a major initiative to create rural jobs, the government today approved a Rs 5742 crore project for setting up one lakh rural common services centres to provide e-governance services such as payment of electricity, telephone and water bills and application forms.

    The project, cleared by the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is expected to create about 4 lakh jobs in the rural sector and proposed to be rolled out by March 2008.

  • India: Govt needs to play proactive role in e-governance project: SREI

    The government has to play a more proactive role to make e-governance initiatives offering Government-to-Citizen (G2C) services a viable business model, says SREI Sahaj, which has the mandate to set up such centres across various states.

    SREI Sahaj is a subsidiary of Kolkata-based Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd and has the mandate of rolling out about 29,000 common service centres (CSCs) across the country.

    "Though we have already rolled out 21,000 CSCs, many of them are yet to offer G2C services like issuing birth certificates, land records, etc. Without these services, CSCs can hardly play any role in e-governance as they were supposed to do," SREI Sahaj e-Village Senior Vice-President (Strategic Marketing) Sumanta Pal said.

  • India: Gujarat: Banaskantha joins e-gram ‘broad’bandwagon

    All 783 village panchayats of the district are online now

    Chief Minister Narendra Modi declared Banaskantha as an e-gram district at a function held at Palanpur on the eve of the 62nd Independence Day celebrations. After Amreli, Banaskantha has become the second e-gram-vishwa-gram district in Gujarat, with all its 783 village panchayats receiving broadband connectivity.

    Also, 392 Community Information Centres (CIC) providing Internet facility to villagers are being made operational here. Amreli was declared an e-gram on May 1 this year.

  • India: Gujarat: Rajkot: Get over queues, now pay property taxes at kiosks

    To make the process of paying various dues of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) a smoother one, the civic body will be installing multi-functional transaction kiosks in the city. According to RMC officials, they have purchased the first such kiosk which will be installed at Amin Marg city civic centre here on an experimental basis.

    RMC officials claim that the civic body is the first to introduce such a system for tax payment in the state. "At present, people pay their dues either at different city civic centres or through post offices. However, more often than not citizens have to wait in queues. Also, all these offices have fixed working hours. But, through these kiosks, people can pay their dues at any time," an RMC official said.

  • India: Haryana prepares to implement Industrial Portal Project Plan

    Having emerged in the category of "Level One" States in implementation of the core infrastructure projects of State Wide Area Network (SWAN) and Common Service Centres (CSCs),Haryana has prepared an industrial portal project plan and a digital trunking system is being implemented for police control room in Gurgaon.

    While stating this here on Sunday, a spokesman of Haryana Department of Electronics and Information Technology said that new initiatives were being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda to make Haryana number one State in information technology so as to cope with the changing scenario.

    Government of Haryana is in the process of setting up around 1200 Common Service Centres (CSCs) across the state by April 2008.

    In its quest to set up a delivery platform for B2C and G2C, the government of Haryana is setting up 1159 rural CSCs and 104 urban CSCs.

  • India: Himachal Pradesh to create CSC through 3366 Lok Mitra kendras

    CSCs will enable citizens to log complaints and grievances

    With a view to giving impetus to e-governance, Himachal Pradesh cabinet today decided to create Common Service Centres (CSC) through 3,366 Lok Mitra Kendras across the hill state.

    The CSCs to be established by department of Information Technology would provide facility of registering complaints and grievances through Lok Mitra Kendras under e-Samadhan portal to common man on nominal payment of Rs 4.

  • India: Himachal Pradesh: Hamirpur: Community service project launched

    With an objective to provide efficient and speedy e-governance services to the people, the Hamirpur district administration has launched a new Integrated Community Service Centre (ICSC) project through which a Sugam Kendra will be established here.

    This centre, which had been recently sanctioned by the state government with an allocation of Rs 58 lakh, will be established in the Hamirpur DC office and more than 50 services will be provided under one roof.

  • India: ICT Ministers meet for speeding-up delivery of e-Services gets underway

    Over 55,000 Common Service Centres (CSCs) of the 1, 00,000 planned, have been rolled out by various State Governments across the country, under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). Department of Information Technology (DIT) has prepared a plan to position additional 1, 50,000 CSCs to cover all Panchayats bringing the total number to 2,50,000. This was stated by Shri A. Raja, the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology while addressing a conference of ICT Ministers here today. The Minister said these CSCs will deliver services under Bharat Nirman and provide support to other flagship programmes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Rural Health Mission etc.

  • India: Internet CSC Rollout Complete In Jharkhand, Haryana, Sikkim; Long Way To Go

    The Indian government’s initiative of providing e-governance to villages is gathering some momentum: as of June 2009, the rollout of Internet connected Common Service Centers has been completed in the states of Jharkhand (4562), Haryana(1159) and Sikkim(45), and almost complete in Gujarat.

    A CSC essentially is a kiosk in a rural district, which allows online bill payments, booking tickets, applying for jobs, searching for market information and selling of local produce. CSCs are going to be managed by a Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE), which serves as the nodal point for services and government schemes. The CSC rollout is a part of the National E-Governance Plan (NeGP).

  • India: Investors lose sleep & money

    An ambitious rural project launched to take e-governance services to villagers is turning out to be loss-making venture with neither the investors nor the benefactors reaping any of the intended benefits.

    The common service centres were opened by the government in Dhubri villages to help people living in the remotest corners find easy access to e-governance, banking, railway and air ticket booking, mobile charging and telephone bill payment.

  • India: IT Kiosks Set Up In 2185 Himachal Panchayats

    For providing citizen services at the doorsteps of a largely rural population, the state government had identified 3366 locations for setting up Information Technology (IT) enabled Lok Mitra Kendras of which 2185 stand established.

    For a state whose 90 percent population resides in villages, Panchayat was considered the basic unit of establishing these Lok Mitra Kendras, said a government spokesman.
