A declaration for strategies aimed at enhancing the role of e-governments in attaining sustainable development was drawn up by heads of Gulf Cooperation Council communication and media authorities in a meeting here on Sunday.

The declaration also highlights raising local e-government employee capabilities and GCC integration, Kuwait's Minister of Communications and State Minister for Housing Affairs Salem Al-Uthaina, who heads the GCC centralized council for information technology, told KUNA.

Minister of Transport and Acting CEO of Economic Development Board (EDB) Kamal Bin Ahmed Mohammed chaired the second meeting of the Ministerial Committee of GCC E-Government, in presence of the GCC Secretary General, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, and the relevant ministers of the e-government in the member states. The meeting was hosted by Kingdom of Bahrain to discuss a number of issues related to improving and developing the e-government services and common cooperation issues.

The meeting aimed at developing the coordination and cooperation means between GCC states to achieve the views and aspirations of Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the GCC states in an initiative to move from the Gulf cooperation to the union stage as an embodiment of the concern of the leaders and accomplishing of the aspirations of GCC states.

The first meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Committee for E-Health, supervised by Ministry of Health, kicked off here on Monday to discuss E-Linking systems for screening programs of expatriates and establishing appropriate work mechanism to implement the smart card and E-Linking systems among GCC countries.

The meeting is also to discuss development mechanisms for E-Systems of screening expats that would help each GCC country to identify health conditions of expats wishing to enter to any member-country, Dr. Qais Al-Duwairi, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health Affairs at Ministry of Health, said in a press statement.

The Kingdom of Bahrain hosts today the second meeting of the GCC e-government ministerial committee comprising the ministers in charge of e-government in the GCC countries.

The GCC Secretary-General, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, in his inaugural speech at the meeting, stated that e-transactions have become one of the contributories in communities development and an essential pillar thereof which has a great impact on socio-economic, cultural and political arenas.

GCC businesses need to upgrade their service quality levels to meet customer expectations and compete globally, said Suhail Bin Tarraf, Chief Executive Officer of Tanfeeth, the leading onshore shared services organisation in the Middle East. Bin Tarraf was delivering the keynote address at the recently concluded 11th GCC Government Shared Services Centers and eServices Quality Excellence Conference.

The event is considered one of the premier thought-leadership conferences for identifying new shared services best practices, particularly within the GCC's government sector.
