Rwanda's Minister in the Office of the President in charge of ICT, Dr. Ignace Gatare, officiated over the Rwanda Telecenter Network (RTN) partners and stakeholders' forum which aimed at deepening the awareness of the role of tele-centres in the country's development as well as build partnerships for the deployment of the centres.

The telecentre forum intends to give a platform for telecentre practitioners for learning and sharing experience; discuss subjects like sustainability, connectivity and relevant content .More importantly, the forum will offer to the participants a unique occasion to exchange their understanding and views on how to transform Telecentres from a mere ICT access point to community service and knowledge hub.

The Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA), General Assembly that sat in Kigali, over the weekend, resolved that all local government authorities should adopt the use of ICT, as a way of enhancing e-governance.

While addressing the meeting, the association's president Dr. Aisha Kirabo, who is also the mayor of Kigali, called upon her counterparts to be in constant communication with the population by embracing ICT.

In a bid to improve medical education at the E-Health Centre of Excellence, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) has entered into a partnership with Tulane University, a medical school based in the United States of America.

The centre of excellence was established early this year to improve the health sector by helping medical practitioners access information regarding the situation of patients, both in urban and in the rural areas using ICT.

Addressing e-Health stakeholders at KIST on Wednesday, Prof Kevin Krane, the Dean of Academic Affairs at Tulane University, called upon practitioners to develop a network of technology across the country.

In Rwanda, the cost of accessing the Internet continues to fall and as a result, connection speed has improved as reliance on the Internet within the East African region grows.

Today many companies are increasingly showing interest in providing various web-based solutions for their clients.

In line with this, starting today, November 8 to10, 2010, the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), which is responsible for advancing the U.S commercial interests in emerging markets, will host a technical workshop at the Serena Hotel, Kigali Rwanda.

A meeting bringing together stakeholders from various segments of the society was held yesterday in Kigali with participants urging for closer collaboration on ICT issues by all players.

The meeting, which attracted participants from the ICT sector, government and civil society, aimed at discussing present and future challenges associated with the use of the internet.

Speaking at the forum, Ignace Gatare, the Minister in Charge of ICT in the Office of the President, said that the country is putting much effort in accelerating the rollout of strategic broadband infrastructure.
