Doctors in the country have been asked to prepare guidelines which will protect the privacy of patient’s information in telemedicine. Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Seif Rashid, made the call on Saturday in Bagamoyo while closing a two day conference on the transformation of health care delivery through telemedicine, which was attended by various doctors and Information Communication Technology (ICT) experts.

The minister said that advancement of telemedicine could undermine privacy and security risks if not addressed properly as it involves mobile computing and networking.

Tanzanians will soon start benefitting from a wireless internet services countrywide with the coming into force of the new registered telecommunication company using 4G technology.

The 4G wireless technology is the term used to describe the fourth-generation mobile technology of wireless service succeeding 3G, which is currently the most widespread, high-speed wireless service.

The Tanzanian Ministry of Energy and Minerals, with funding from the World Bank’s International Development Asso-ciation, has launched a project to upgrade its mining cadastre information management system (MCIMS).

The upgrade, which is being undertaken by information technology company Spatial Dimension, will enable the existing MCIMS to support online transactions.

The government in collaboration with experts from South Korea and Kenya is discussing the possibility of introducing an online identity and verification system aimed at controlling cyber crime in Tanzania.

The system to be adopted from South Korea and Kenya is known as Public Key Infrastructure.

According to the two countries, the system has been successful in checking cyber related crimes.

An annual growth rate of about 40 per cent is forecasted for the African e-commerce industry, according to market research firm yStats. com.

In its "Africa B2C E-Commerce Report - 2013", yStats.com found a number of countries with strong online sales have already emerged, including South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco.

An increasing Internet penetration rate, the rapid spread and accessibility of mobile technology, and recent improvements to ecommerce payments and delivery infrastructures on the continent have all been linked to the online retail boost.
