Communication is chiefly what places humankind at the top of the food chain. Scientists believe it is the urge and ability to communicate better that has made the human race “rule the world”.

It is therefore no surprise that one of the greatest achievements of modern-era development is improved communication which, with the advent of the telephone, marked the beginning of a technological revolution.

With electronic transfer of information, the weapon known as communication has neared perfection. Indeed, advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought the seemingly impossible right on to the palms of our hands and right at our fingertips.

Farmers are among poor people in many developing countries who grapple with agricultural challenges to make little progress in their lives. There are cases where they are conned and mislead during the selling season by unscrupulous middlemen. They normally lack market information. However experts believe that incorporation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in agriculture could be of great advantage to farmers…

Ilala Municipal residents yesterday had their fingerprints, photographs and electronic signatures taken as part of the final steps towards receiving their national Identification Cards (IDs).

After completing the exercise in Ilala Municipality, Kinondoni Municipality will follow marking the end of Dar es Salaam Region and the beginning of the process in other regions. The highly anticipated IDs are expected to improve national security and criminal investigations as well as revenue collection and social services delivery.

Speaking at the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit in London on Thursday, 31 November, President Kikwete of Tanzania announced a commitment to enacting a Freedom of Information law.

In a bid to increase transparency in governance, plans are underway to establish Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres in every village.Chief Secretary, Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, said this on Friday in Dar es Salaam during his visit to the e-Government agency offices.

He said it is important that priority is given to rural areas so as to harness knowledge for development."There is no way that we can avoid using ICT as it develops daily and is used worldwide by various governments," he said.
