The government of Tanzania is championing the utilization of online services or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve delivery of government information and services to citizens.

One of notable government institutions which are committed to the use of ICT or online services is Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) which has embarked on electronic payment system (e-payment) as part of improving efficiency and modernising the port.

THE National Electoral Commission (NEC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to non-citizens and people who registered more than once in the Permanent Voter Register (PVR) to turn up and surrender the voter cards or risk prosecution.

In a related development, the electoral body has handed over to the police force a list of 52,078 people with multiple registrations in the PVR through the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR).

Communication in 84 parastatals has been eased following success of e-government project, the House was informed.

The Minister for Infrastructure and Communication, Mr Juma Duni Haji, said that e-government is already in full swing in 50 institutions, while connections are in final stages in 34 parastatals.

Thanks to Zantel for the connections. E-government refers to the use by government agencies of information technologies (such as Wide Area Networks, the Internet, and mobile computing) that have the ability to transform relations with citizens, businesses and other arms of government.

Tanzanian government has chosen Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider based in China, to be its technical advisor in empowering the East African country's ICT sector.

An agreement was signed at the first Huawei Cloud Conference in Dar es Salaam Thursday, seeing Huawei offering Tanzania services on ICT training, education and big data services.

The First Government Forum on Electronic Identity (eID) in Africa is expected to open in Dar es Salaam today.

The joint organisers of the historic three-day event are Tanzania’s National Identification Authority (NIDA), which is a wing of the Home Affairs ministry, the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association (APSCA) and the Identity Counsel International (ICI).

This inaugural forum will run under the theme: “How National eID can Support Social and Economic Development”.
