Tanzanians will soon start benefitting from a wireless internet services countrywide with the coming into force of the new registered telecommunication company using 4G technology.

The 4G wireless technology is the term used to describe the fourth-generation mobile technology of wireless service succeeding 3G, which is currently the most widespread, high-speed wireless service.

A 4G system, in addition to the usual voice and other services of 3G, provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphones, and to other mobile devices.

The recent two registered companies WiAfrica Tanzania Limited and Smart Banking Solution Limited will offer wireless communication and banking services respectively countrywide.

While the former is expecting to deploy and operate state of the art 4G communication network countrywide, the latter expects to delivering services in cities and villages in the country through B-Pesa.

Speaking during the license handing over event in the city, Wi Africa Tanzania, Corporate Communications Officer, Pius Mtei said the significance of this licensing award is immense as the company aspires to deliver services of high quality, at affordable rates to the majority individuals countrywide.

“We look forward to promote quality of service in order to improve quality of life through digital inclusion strategy with the vision of developing a smart country”

He added “Broadband 4G wireless connectivity is from the company’s point of view the next imperative to invest because of the existing digital divide between African continent and the rest of the world consequently economy division”

He said countries with a wide availability of broadband connectivity can advance their economies on local and global scale, and that in today’s society, jobs and education are directly connected to the broadband.

“We believe that the 4G wireless broadband is a must in Africa in order to get affordable connectivity to business, education and general population” he said.

The WiAfrica is committed to develop adequate communication infrastructure which can support applications like high speed broadband access for multimedia services, public safety services as well as online skill development (e-education).

Interconnection of health facilities (e-health), government institutions and systems (e-government) as well as on line entertainment will also be supported by the company.

On his part, the Chief Technical Officer with Smart Banking Solution Limited Robert Mug’anya, said their services will be rolled at as low as Sh500 to ensure there is a purchasing power to every citizen.

“We currently operate in over 1800 areas countrywide and we look forward to switch to remote areas, so as to reach our target” said Mug’anya.

He said this system will help the rural dwellers with lack of financial institutions.

The Director General of TCRA Prof John Nkoma, urged the licensees to strictly abide by communication rules and principles.

“We are happy that the number of service providers in the telecommunication sector in the country keeps on rising. We urge you to pass through the laws and principles you have been handed that will allow you to be become good competitors,” he said.
