The Tanaiste said on Tuesday that she has some sympathy with Opposition complaints about e-voting.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Harney made the comment following the tabling of a joint motion in the Dail, to be debated Tuesday or Wednesday, that calls on the government to immediately defer plans for the use of electronic voting in the European and local elections this summer.

More than 90% of Irish Governmental websites are inaccessible to people with disabilities, a new report has found.

Initial results from the eGovernment Benchmarking survey reveals that overuse of inaccessible PDF documents is creating significant difficulties for people with disabilities.

InterTradeIreland has launched a new Web site which provides businesses with easy access to information on R&D resources throughout the island of Ireland.

InterTradeIreland and the Conference of Heads of Irish Universities (CHIU) have launched the ExpertiseIreland.com portal, which aims to boost cross-border collaborative R&D activity by fostering better links between business and academia. The portal contains information on R&D experts from the island's universities and is designed to be a "one stop shop" for those interested in commercialising research from academic institutions.

The government has launched what it described as 'one of the most exciting e-government projects to date' -- an on-line motor tax service.

According to the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, from 1 March 2004 it will be possible for Irish residents to renew their motor tax 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through a new Web site, www.motortax.ie.
