Huawei’s customers have recently won two World Smart City Awards at 10th Smart City Expo World for their innovative ideas and outstanding achievements in driving smart city initiatives, says a press release.

According to the media release, Shenzhen has won the Enabling Technologies Award for technology-enabled refined city governance. Shanghai has been recognised with the City Award for world-class smart cities. Nanhai District of Foshan in Guangdong has won Economy Award. Tianjin

The city of Dandong, located on the edge of China's eastern borderline, is on the frontier of applying the latest communication technology in e-government affairs. The border town has taken tax services into new territory, to the cloud with 5G technology, for people to have a more convenient option to do their taxes.

"Ninety-five percent of tax services can be done through the intelligent cloud system now," said Hao Lu, director of the No. 1 tax office in Yuanbao district, adding that they've been upgrading and promoting the system, and more taxpayers have now embraced the new mode.

Shanghai was named the world's "smartest city" on Wednesday (Nov 18) at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), becoming the first Chinese city to win this award.

The World Smart City Awards are presented annually by SCEWC to promote diversity, inclusiveness, equality, safety, and collaboration.

Shanghai won the City Award category at the SCEWC this year. Stockholm won the award last year.

Smart Shanghai — People-Oriented Smart City, the deployment of intensive digital Infrastructure, e-government services, a City Brain, and massive industrial digital transformation, made Shanghai the winner of the 2020 Smart City Award.

The Shanghai Smart City Plan (2016-220) is currently in its final year of implementation and has had a fruitful development, focusing on the following areas: digital infrastructure construction, e-government, City Brain, Integration technology, industry, and environmental strategy.
