  • A1 Introduces Smart Communicating Waste Bins in Croatia

    A1 in Croatia, a leading provider of digital services and communication solutions, held a press conference and presented three models of smart communicating waste bins, which optimize waste collection and contribute to the environment by reducing the carbon footprint. One of the smart bins is TOM from Orwak.

    A1 in Croatia, which has about 2000 employees and serves 2 million customers on an everyday basis, is part of A1 Telekom Austria Group – a leading provider of digital services and communication solutions in Central and Eastern Europe.

  • Croatia's Apis IT opens 49 mln euro shared services centre

    Croatian state-controlled information and communications company Apis IT said it has opened a 362 million kuna ($54 million/49 million euro) shared services centre, aiming to support the digitalisation of the Croatian public sector.

    The new facility is a so-called government cloud, or an information infrastructure that will unite enormous amount of state administration data, thus making the management and handling of this data easier, with the ultimate goal of creating a paperless state, Apis IT said in a statement on Monday.

  • Croatian Project Involving 100,000 Chargers for E-Cars Being Prepared

    As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes on the 13th of December, 2020, the Association of Electric Car Drivers, "Circuit/Strujni krug", has embarked on a Croatian project to install 100,000 chargers for e-cars on light poles along city car parks. It is estimated that this Croatian project could come with a shiny price tag of up to 150 million euros, and they expect that it could be realised over a period of three years.

    Electric cars are becoming more and more popular on roads around the world every year, so the global charger infrastructure must be adapted for them. Back in pre-pandemic 2019, 730 fully electric vehicles were registered here in Croatia, and given the recent award of incentives for their purchase, it is expected that this number will increase far above 1000 by the end of this year.

    Azerbaijan, which is a regional leader in the ICT sector, intends to expand its international cooperation to further develop the sector.

    SPAN, one of the largest Croatian IT companies engaged in software development and system integration, is ready to create joint ventures in Azerbaijan.

  • BH: Government Applications Store offers 26 Applications early 2014

    eGovernment Authority Vice CEO Dr. Zakareya Ahmed Al-Khaja announced the details of the Government Apps Store which was announced by His Excellency Mr. Kamal Bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Minister of Transportation during the opening ceremony of MEET ICT 2013. Dr. Al-Khaja pointed out that the store currently provides 21 applications with a plan to increase the total number of apps to 26 by the beginning of 2014 based on the eGovernment strategic objectives as one Key performance indicator is to launch 10 new mobile apps annually until 2016.

    The new government project "e-Gradani" (e-Citizens) will greatly benefit from the IBM IT infrastructure as the mainframe environment will help enable faster and more secure access to government services.

    Croatia made progress last year on the European Union's Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) – it ranks 22nd out of the 28 EU member states, while in subcategories of the index it ranks 8th.

    The Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) is a composite index that summarises relevant indicators on Europe’s digital performance and tracks the evolution of EU member states in digital competitiveness. The DESI measures the performance of 28 EU member states in a number of areas, including connectivity, digital skills, integration of digital technology, and digital public services.

    The Croatian Ministry of Health and Social Care and Ericsson Nikola Tesla company have presented a joint e-health programme.

    The initiative put forward today (Mon) in Gospic, central Croatia is the first step in the digitalisation of the Primary Medical Care System in Croatia to be introduced completely by January 2011.

  • Croatia joins EU programme to break down e-barriers

    The Republic of Croatia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the EU to join the ISA Programme. ISA, which stands for “Interoperability Solutions for European Public Administrations”, takes a practical approach in supporting easier communication between administrations across Europe.

    Participation of the candidate countries in Union programmes is an important element of the Pre-Accession Strategy. By joining the ISA programme, Croatia will become familiar with EU policies in the field of interoperability, one of the key elements identified in the flagship initiative Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE).

  • Croatia: Cautious Start for Open Standards in New eGovernment Policy

    Croatia''s Government has taken a cautious next step to ensure that its electronic government services will use open IT standards. Five of the ten principles in effect describe open standards.

    The fifth principle in the policy document stipulates that whenever the Government makes information publicly available through an electronic system, this must be done in such a way that users can access this freely. Users should not be forced to use proprietary software, explains the document. "Government bodies must use standards that do not force end-users to use commercial technology or restrict the users in any other way."

  • Croatian government adopts free software policy

    The Croatian government has decided to adopt a free software policy and move entirely to Open Source.

    According to a document with the catchy title "Directions for Development and Use of Open Source Code Computer Programmes in Bodies and Institutions of State Administration" the Government says it needs to develop, prepare and procure open-source software.

  • EE: Ratas: Estonia, Croatia committed to developing e-health in Europe

    Prime Minister Jüri Ratas met with his Croatian colleague Andrej Plenković in Zagreb on Tuesday. According to Ratas, Croatia is greatly interested in e-health solutions, and would like to see digital prescriptions introduced across the EU.

    Ratas said that the Croatian visit summed up all the others he made before to introduce Estonia’s priorities for its EU council presidency, especially with the country’s lively interest in the digital development of Europe.

    As Novac/Vedran Marjanovic writes on the 21st of November, 2020, the winner of the Smart City award from Jutarnji list, the Gradonacelnik.hr (Mayor.hr) portal and the Apsolon agency in the competition of medium-sized cities will be sought between the Istrian cities of Labin and Porec, Koprivnica-Krizevci County Koprivnica and two Zagreb County areas, Zapresic and Ivanic-Grad.

    The candidate medium-sized cities were shortlisted based on research conducted by the jury according to 29 different criteria in six units - the digital readiness of the administration, the strategic orientation of the city as ''smart'', having a smart economy, society, infrastructure and environment.

  • HR: A Smarter Future: Mayor Ivica Puljak Discusses Green City Action Plan Split

    Split Mayor Ivica Puljak attended an online meeting with the developers of the Green City Action Plan Split - European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and local and international consultants involved in drafting the Green City Action Plan Split (GCAP).

    On that occasion, he pointed out the advantages of cooperation with the EBRD in developing such and similar "green" projects for the city of Split. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of drafting and implementing the plan in the context of improving the quality of life, environment, and climate change.

  • HR: Adoption of decision on eGovernment development for 2011-2015 to align with EU standards

    On 20 October 2011, the Croatian Government adopted a Decision establishing eGovernment development goals in the State Administration for 2011-2015. It is expected that this decision will allow the country to reach in a short time period the level of public service quality expected from EU Member States.

    Following several years of investment in IT solutions and in the development of eGovernment, the Croatian Government adopted this decision in an aim to further develop eGovernment in line with the EU's eGovernment Action Plan 2011-2015.

  • HR: Dubrovnik Pass proves a hit with visitors to the city as sales soared in 2022

    Dubrovnik Pass, the digital upgrade of the former Dubrovnik card and the new Smart City solution of the City of Dubrovnik, recorded record results in its first year of introduction.

    The gross revenue from the sale of the Dubrovnik Pass in 2022 exceeded 45 million Kuna, thereby surpassing the gross revenue recorded in 2019.

  • HR: E-prescriptions off to a good start

    Some 2.5 to three million e-prescriptions have been issued since they replaced paper ones two weeks ago and the system is functioning smoothly, the Ministry of Health has announced.

    E-referrals will be introduced starting February 14, the daily Vjesnik writes.

    According to the Ministry, the project will reduce unnecessary administration and ensure that doctors have more time for their patients. The new system is expected to cut down pharmacists' administrative work by 80-90 per cent.
