  • Smart city, island to rise in PH through partnership of Filipino and Czech firms

    Philippines-based firm Smart Citi Teknologi (SCT) entered into a memorandum of agreement with Czech company Tesla Smart Technologies to build a smart city in Manila. Mario Marcos and Peter Matejcek, the chief executive officers of the two companies, met in Makati City on Monday to form the deal. Also in attendance to witness the signing was Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala as part of his two-day visit in the country to boost bilateral and business relations.

    The smart city project aims to promote a technology-driven lifestyle and develop an infrastructure that can withstand natural calamities while remaining carbon-neutral. From the reports of Tesla and SCT, the development will also increase the extraction of natural resources by 15% and keep extraction costs low by utilizing proprietary hardware and software. Marcos also said the project will tap the talents of Filipino experts in the information technology industry.

  • Ahead of digital revolution, small Czech firms still struggle with slow internet

    The Czech Republic is one of the most industrialised EU states and its big companies do not fear digitalisation. However, SMEs are afraid of job losses and have asked for help with the costly transformation.

    According to a Deloitte study, digitalisation, robotisation and automatisation will affect mainly transport and heavy, manufacturing and automotive industry. This is important for the Czech Republic where industry accounts for almost 50% of the overall business economy.

  • AZ: Baku, Prague Discuss Possibilities Of Cooperation On Smart City Projects

    Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic have discussed possibilities of cooperation on the smart city and smart village projects, Azernews reports.

    The discussion took place during a meeting between Azerbaijan's Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Mammadov and Czech Ambassador Milan Sedlacek.

  • CZ: Pilsen to upgrade public transport with a smart tram

    The Czech city aims to develop a fully autonomous tram by 2027

    On 25 May, the City of Pilsen announced its plans to create a living laboratory and a centre for smart mobility by 2027. This living laboratory will be developed with the aim of testing various models of smart transport in a real environment.

    Taking this further, Pilsen signed a memorandum of cooperation with several organisations to develop the city’s first smart tram. With its development, Pilsen seeks to become the first smart city of its kind in the Czech Republic.

  • CZ: Almost half of healthcare workers now employ EHRs

    Almost 50 % of all healthcare workers in the Czech Republic now actively employ the electronic health records (EHRs) of the IZIP system (EZK, in Czech), it was announced on 2 September 2011.

    IZIP's statistics reveal a high involvement of doctors and other healthcare workers with the IZIP system. In mid-August 2011, more than 20 500 healthcare workers were utilising the EHR services. Moreover, the number of EHR medical entries has grown by a third over the past 6 months to 22 870 582 and now 2.54 million patients have an EHR. These statistics indicate that the importance of EHRs continues to grow.

  • CZ: Business consulting service systems integrated

    The Czech Republic's three entrepreneur advisory systems have been integrated into a single entity, making it the first such unified consultancy system in the EU, it was announced on 12 January 2011.

    The three component systems are Points of Single Contact (PSC), Product Contact Points (ProCoP), and Solvit. In 2010, over 3 000 inquires were dealt by these three systems seperatly. The Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade has combined these into a single advisory system for entrepreneurs' business activities at home and abroad.

  • CZ: Data box system produces savings of up to €400 000 every week

    In the week from 12 to 18 September 2011, Czech citizens sent a record number of 727 922 data messages, it was announced on 21 September 2011. This equates to a record saving for the week of almost CZK 10 million (€400 000, approximately) when compared to the cost of traditional paper-based communication.

    While the price for an official registered letter is an average of CZK 26 (€1, approximately), a data message currently costs CZK 13.30 (€0.50, approximately) without VAT, and this will continue to fall as the number of sent messages continues to rise. Since the data box system was launched in July 2009, over CZK 500 million (€21 million, approximately) has now been saved.

  • CZ: Data Boxes - Government to save 20 million Czech crowns a year

    Following a recent agreement between the Ministry of the Interior and Czech Post, as from April 2012 the cost of sending a single message to a Data Box will drop from CZK 15.04 without VAT (approx. €0.59) to CZK 11.68 without VAT (approx. €0.46). This is expected to save the government CZK 20 million (approx €790 600) a year.

    Data Boxes are repositories designed to store electronic communications of: citizens and companies with the state (official correspondence); citizens with companies; and between public authorities. The Ministry of the Interior (Ministerstvo Vnitra, in Czech) manages the project, and Czech Post (Česká pošta, in Czech) operatesthe Information System of Data Boxes.

  • CZ: Doctors can now register their patients for an EHR in the IZIP system

    It has now been made possible for doctors in the Czech Republic to register their patients in the IZIP system of electronic health records (EHRs), it was announced on 31 January 2012.

    It is hoped that the speed and convenience of this method of registration will contribute to the further development of EHR services and provide healthcare professionals with key health information when they need it.

    Prior to the registration it is necessary for the doctor or other healthcare worker to familiarise the patient with how the IZIP system works. A basic condition for concluding the registration is the patient's consent to the input of all the required personal data.

  • CZ: Health Min to scrap electronic health records

    The IZIP patients' e-health files project, subsidised by the state-controlled VZP insurer for ten years now and widely criticised as disadvantageous for the state, will be wound up, Prime Minister Petr Necas and Health Minister Leos Heger agreed on Thursday, Heger's spokesman told CTK.

    The VZP, the country's biggest health insurer whose board of managers comprises 10 representatives of the government and 20 representatives of parties in parliament, invested 1.8 billion crowns in the IZIP project in the past decade.

  • CZ: National Digital Archives Project is launched

    The Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic officially launched the National Digital Archives Project on 9 February 2011 in a move to fulfil the 'Strategy for efficient public administration and the Smart Administration in the period 2007-2015'.

    The National Digital Archives Project will enable documents to be securely stored electronically, in a ​​publicly accessible and sustainable way. The project is a response to increasing public interest in accessing information remotely, and it will enable saved records to be accessible from any place in much less time than ever before. It also saves time and money. In this way the project will enable a response to the anticipated huge increase in electronic documents produced by the public and private sectors.

  • CZ: New figure to symbolise cloud computing

    On 5 April 2011, the Czech Ministry of the Interior presented Klaudie, a female cartoon figure, as a new symbol of eGovernment in regard to the phenomenon of cloud computing.

    Up until now, the only official symbol of Czech eGovernment has been eGON, a cartoon figure that symbolises the computerisation of public administration to produce a faster, cheaper and user-friendly public administration using ICT. eGON is used to symbolise the transformation of public administration and promote among citizens the easiness of use of important public services such as Czech POINT and Data Boxes.

  • CZ: New look and feel for the data box system

    Since 30 July 2012, after more than three years of operation of the Czech Republic’s data box portal, users have been enjoying an updated version. The new version has improved functionality as well as a new look and feel with a modern and well-arranged graphic web design.

    Users will no longer need to install any application on their PCs in order to be able to read and send messages. The technology of electronic forms has been transferred to data boxes which work directly on the government’s secure servers, without losing any functionality. Thanks to the updated portal, users will find it easier to access the services of the portal from a mobile device and/or other operating systems.

  • CZ: New portal launched for data boxes

    A new Czech portal, www.mojedatovaschranka.cz, was launched on 19 June 2011 to provide a more comprehensive service to users of data boxes.

    Data boxes serve as a secure repository of official electronic communications with the public authorities. The new portal provides in one place comprehensive information on and the services on the information system of data boxes (ISDS). In addition, the portal provides users with several secure ways to login, and also makes available interactive electronic forms.

  • CZ: New Public Administration Portal is live

    The Czech Ministry of the Interior inaugurated on 20 March 2012 the new Public Administration Portal, a single electronic gateway to the Czech authorities' information and services.

    Information for citizens, foreigners, businesses and entrepreneurs; secure direct login to one's data box; official bulletins, electronic forms - these are just some of the services that have been made available at the single web portal, which can be found at the link www.portal.gov.cz.

  • CZ: New websites for checking the quality of bathing waters and summer camps

    The Czech Republic has launched two new websites to inform the public on hygiene-related issues for outdoor bathing sites and children's summer camps, it was announced on 24 June 2011.

    Regional hygiene stations (Krajská hygienická stanice - KHS, in Czech) monitor water quality at selected lakes during the summer, roughly May to September. In the period of the school summer holidays, the stations are also engaged in monitoring health levels at children's camps.

  • CZ: Non-EU foreigners to get IDs with biometric data

    Foreigners from non-EU countries will receive residence permits with biometric data in the Czech Republic as of May, Interior Minister Radek John said Friday.

    It is the Interior Ministry that has been making decisions on stays and long-term visas of foreigners since January. Until then, this agenda was done by the foreigner police.

    John said the conditions for foreigners have improved thanks to the change. The ministry seeks to provide more information, speed up the proceedings and eliminate corruption, he said.

  • CZ: Online service launched to provide reports of healthcare events and charges

    Citizens in the Czech Republic now have online access to a record of the significant events and transactions of their healthcare, it was announced on 22 July 2011.

    Via their electronic health record (EHR; elektronické zdravotní knížky - EZK, in Czech), citizens can easily obtain online a report of their healthcare, which contains a list of health procedures, tests, visits to doctors and medicines prescribed, plus the charges and payments corresponding to them. If a citizen finds any discrepancy in their report, they can contact their health insurance company to ask for a revision of the apparent irregularities.

  • CZ: Over 800 000 entries per month now made in electronic health records

    The number of entries made by doctors in the electronic health records (EHRs) of the Czech national IZIP system (EZK, in Czech) now averages over 800 000 per month, a new record, it was reported on 1 November 2011.

    According to IZIP's statistics, the number of entries made in the EHRs increased from 20 376 234 (on 20 May 2011) to 24 593 956 (on 31 October 2011), a rise of more than 25 % in just five months. Thus more and more doctors are writing (and reading) in the electronic health records, producing a rapidly expanding database of valuable health information for doctors.

  • CZ: PM critical of slow pace of digitalization

    Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has criticized the slow pace of digitalization in state administration, saying that the task had been neglected by past governments and a major effort was needed to press ahead with it.

    Speaking at a conference on digitalization in Hradec Kralové, Mr. Babiš said his government considered digitalization one of its top priorities and something that would significantly improve the lives of Czech citizens.
