Until the biometric voting system is centralized, all the stop guard measures being proposed by political parties on how to maintain a credible voters’ register remains impotent. This was an observation made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi- Boasiako.

The Electoral Commission (EC) opened a two-day public hearing on the voters’ register following series of petitions and calls from some political parties, civil society groups and a number of Ghanaians for a new voters’ register.

MTN Ghana has declared its intention to help in building Ghana’s Information Communication and Technology (ICT) vision for the future. The leading network communication company in the country believes that with the existence of a well defined ICT vision for the country, Ghana will leapfrog from its current state to lead the continent in the technology space. With a subscriber base of 15 million and still growing, MTN Ghana is also of the view that Ghana would be able to achieve such a goal through the collaborative efforts of players within the industry including the government, regulator and network operators.

The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana Mr. Ebenzer Twum Asante, who also happens to be the first Ghanaian to head MTN Ghana since its inception, made this known to members of the Network of Communications Reporters (NCR) during a brief visit to his office by executive members of the group.

Mr. Kwami Ahiabene, Executive Director of Penplusbytes has admonished Ghanaians especially the youth to take advantage of the sprawling opportunities of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to deepen good governance and parliamentary democracy in Ghana.

Penplusbytes is a non-governmental organisation that seeks to promote citizen participation in democracy through the use of ICT He said exchange of communication was no longer a barrier and therefore people could use ICT to constantly communicate with their Members of Parliament (MPs), Ministers and other government appointees, and make their concerns known while demanding accountability from them.

Savana Signatures has designed a mobile platform dubbed: 'Citizens' Request Dash-board,' which helps District Assemblies and their people to interact and share opinions on development issues.

This forms part of the Mobile for Social Inclusive Governance (MSIG) Project piloted by Savana Signatures in four assemblies with the goal to influence government policy and planning to increase the participation of women, youth and people with disabilities (PWDs) in local governance.

Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, the Minister of Trade and Industry, has advocated the establishment of a trade portal for the African continent.

He said the portal would help in trade facilitation and improvement in bilateral trade relations.

Dr Spio-Garbrah was speaking at the Swiss-Ghanaian Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Breakfast meeting on the theme: “Innovations in trade facilitation and e-government” in Accra.
