A technology firm, Afritex and the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) have committed to an alliance for the formation of a holistic national policy for the building of smart cities in Nigeria, and entrench data privacy for all Nigerians.

Both the national commissioner/CEO of NDPB, Dr Vincent Olatunji and founder/CEO of Afritex, Oyesola Oworu made the commitment on Thursday when Olatunji received in audience, team from Afritex led by Oworu on a courtesy visit in his Abuja office. The visit was to seek the partnership and collaboration of the data bureau towards the coming fourth edition of the Sustainable Smart Cities Forum.

The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Abubakar , has said in order to advance digital infrastructure and promote financial inclusion a robust and secure e-identity system is important.

He spoke at an event tagged, “CIO Club Africa Summit: Digital Economy and Nexus Between E-Identity, Connectivity and Financial Inclusion”, which was held in Lagos.

Lagos State continues to play the role of trail blazer in the country, and sometimes in the sub-continent. While the state is still under the blaze of its new train display, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the delivery of a batch of electric trains, the first not only in the country but also in West Africa.

“I am excited to announce the first set of electric buses in the Lagos Mass Transit Master Plan as part of our increased effort to modernise every sector of Lagos. Thanks to our partnership with @Oando PLC, Lagosians can expect a cleaner and greener public transportation in Lagos State,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu.
