  • Vietnam looses ground in UN's e-government rankings

    Vietnam recently ranked 112th out of 191 countries in the 2004 e-government readiness rankings of the United Nations Public Administration Network (UNPAN).

    According to the 2004 ratings, the country has an index of 0.3378, down 15 positions from the previous year.

  • Vietnam moves up UN’s e-government readiness index

    Vietnam ranks 91 out of 192 countries surveyed by the United Nations (UN) for e-government readiness, the UN report said last weekend.

    The country climbed 14 places compared to the last survey in 2005, scoring an index of 0.4558 of the total 1.000, according to the survey which was carried out by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) of the United Nations Secretariat.

    The e-government readiness index shows a country’s application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in providing information, products and services to its citizens.

  • Vietnam up one place in UN e-government index ranking

    Vietnam has moved up one place to rank 88th among the 193 countries in the United Nations E-Government Survey 2018.

    Vietnam scored High in the Online Services Index (OSI) and E-Participation Index (EPI) (up from 0.5 points to 0.75 points).

    In the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam was ranked sixth after Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Brunei.

  • Vietnam: Online public services excel

    Vietnam has made a big hop in the world’s e-government rankings due to increased website usage and telecom infrastructure upgrades.

    The Vietnam on World IT map 2008 report by the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association last week said the country has made remarkably improvements in United Nations Public Administration Network or the UNPAN’s e-government index.

    Vietnam’s 91st ranking in the 2008 e-government index is 16 grades higher than previous years. Of which, the Vietnam’s Web Measure index was 0.4448, higher than 0.2231 of 2005 and its telecommunications infrastructure index was 0.1081 compared to 0.0489 in 2005.

  • Vietnam's e-governance rating goes up

    With an index of 0.364, Vietnam jumped seven steps to rank 105 in terms of e-governance performance, according to the latest United Nations study analyzing the current status of e-government in the world.

    The 2005 report by the UN Online Network in Public Administration and Finance (UNPAN) rated the Southeast Asian country the 112th position among 191 countries worldwide.

    On July 10, 2020, the United Nations released its E-Government Survey 2020. With an overall score of 0.66 on the E-Government Development Index (EGDI), Vietnam moved up two places from last year and was ranked 86th among 193 member states. Though Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines scored higher, Vietnam has so far already made some substantial improvements on e-governance and hopes to be among the top four Southeast Asian nations by 2025.

    Global e-government rankings affect Vietnam’s investment attractiveness, national competitiveness, and negotiations on international trade deals, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said at a recent meeting.

    Vietnam is ranked 89th overall among 193 countries in the United Nations E-Government Survey 2016. Its rankings in three component categories are 74th in the Online Service Index, 110th in the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index, and 127th in the Human Capital Index.

  • VN: Hanoi among the world’s 100 smartest cities

    Hanoi was ranked among the world’s 100 smartest cities, according to the 2024 Smart City Index. The index was produced by the Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Center’s Smart City Observatory in collaboration with the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO).

    This year, Hanoi ranked 97th, up 3 places compared to last year. This result is partly due to the city’s initial achievements in digital transformation. For the first time, municipal leaders used completely digital signatures on a shared software for the administrative system. All state agencies in the capital city have applied digital signatures. A number of shared information databases have been deployed to administrations at all levels to better serve internal operations and handle administrative procedures.

  • VN: Hanoi among world’s 100 smartest cities

    The capital of Hanoi was named the world’s 97th smartest city, moving up three places from its ranking in 2023, according to the 2024 Smart City Index.

    The index was produced by the Swiss business school Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Centre’s Smart City Observatory in collaboration with the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO). It listed 142 cities in all and graded them on the basis of how they use advanced technology to improve the lives of their citizens.

  • VN: Hanoi gains, while HCM City loses ground in global smart city ranking

    Both Hanoi and HCM City received a rather poor scores of CCC in the Technology aspect, while in terms of Structures, the capital city Hanoi fared a little better than the southern economic center (CC compared to CCC).

    Hanoi earned the 97th position in a global smart city ranking, up three places compared to last year, while HCM City slid down two places to 105th.

  • VN: Hanoi moves three notches up smart city rankings

    Hanoi has moved up three places from last year to reach 97th in the 2024 Smart City Index, as compiled by the International Institute for Management Development of Switzerland.

    In Asia alone, Hanoi ranks 20th out of 28 cities, behind several cities such as Bangkok (Thailand), Osaka (Japan), and above some cities such as Jakarta (Indonesia), and Mumbai (India).

  • VN: HCM City ranks high in digital transformation index

    Ho Chi Minh City ranked second out of 63 provinces and cities in the country in terms of the 2022 digital transformation index (DTI), the Information and Communications Ministry has announced.

    According to a report of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the digital economy contributed about 18.7% of the city's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) last year.

  • VN’s e-government gains global above average ranking

    Results from a survey on e-government announced in the Vietnam Digital Economy Forum 2018 showed that Vietnam stands at the 88th position among 193 nations with 0.59 point, ranking the above average.

    According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuc, Director of the Authority of Information Technology Application under the Ministry of Information and Communications, among the 3 criteria in the evaluation, Vietnam achieved the highest point in online administrative services, followed by human resources and telecommunications infrastructure.

  • Weak Property Rights Hold Back Russian IT

    The low level of intellectual and other property rights protection in information and communication technologies is holding Russia back compared with many ex-communist countries, Global Information Technology said in a new report.

    The report, covering 122 countries, ranks Russia 70th in its assessment of "the impact of information and communication technology, or ICT, on the development process and the competitiveness of nations for the year 2006-2007."

  • Web-Savvy Denmark

    For the past six years, the Economist Intelligence Unit has rated countries around the world for Web-readiness, and this year Denmark once again retained the number one position among 65 nations.

    Overall, the Sixth Annual E-Readiness Rankings Report, sponsored by IBM's Institute for Business Value, was upbeat, stating: "For perhaps the first time since the technology bubble burst, the global economy is beginning to feel comfortable in a digital skin. Spending on information and communications technology (ICT) is growing again with some buoyancy in developed markets. In emerging markets, expansion of connectivity — individuals' and organizations' access to voice and data communications — continues on a rapid ascent. Broadband Internet access, meanwhile, is reaching critical mass in several countries and becoming a catalyst for other improvements in the digital economy."

  • WEF-Bericht: Schweden Nummer eins bei IKT-Nutzung

    Schweden ist weltweit die Nummer eins bei der Nutzung der Informationstechnologie.

    Zu diesem Schluss kommt das Weltwirtschaftsforum (WEF) in Genf, das alljährlich in Davos tagt, in seinem am Donnerstag veröffentlichten Bericht zur Informationstechnologie. Deutschland ist von Rang 20 im vergangenen Jahr auf Platz 14 vorgerückt. Auf den Plätzen zwei und drei folgen Singapur und Dänemark, das die Spitzenposition in den vergangenen drei Jahren bekleidet hat. Die Schweiz liegt auf Platz vier, die USA haben den fünften Rang inne.

    What the new UN rankings tell us about the best performing digital governments, and why some nations – like Singapore – have tumbled.

    The UN has just published the 2018 edition of its e-Government survey. While Europe continued to dominate the top spots (Denmark is number 1), Asia’s leading nations did well. Digging beneath the numbers, the qualities that leading e-government nations seem to share are not what they do but how they do it.

  • When it comes to e-gov, U.S. is now No. 11

    The United States moved up a single spot – from 12th to 11th -- in the most recent United Nations E-Government Survey, a measure of how well a country is implementing e-government practices. In 2003, the first year the survey was conducted, the U.S. topped the list.

    The survey tracks progress based on its E-Government Development Index that assesses telecommunications infrastructure, human capital and online services delivery and places counties into one of four categories: very high, high, middle and low. The United States scored in the “very high” category overall. Denmark, Australia and the Republic of Korea had the three highest scores.
