    In the 2005 Best of the Web contest, Delaware's Web portal came out on top.

    The Center for Digital Government's 2005 Best of the Web winners raise the bar for government Web portals. This year's top five -- Delaware, Tennessee, Indiana, Washington and Virginia -- balance innovation and customer service to create portals with plenty of bells and whistles without compromising ease of use.

  • USA: RI.gov ranked among 2008 Best of the Web

    The state’s official RI.gov has been ranked among the top half-dozen government Web sites nationwide by the Center for Digital Government, according to the R.I. Department of Administration’s Division of Information Technology.

    The “Best of the Web” is an annual awards program, administered by the CDG, that aims to recognize the most innovative and user-friendly state and local government sites. Portals are judged based on their efficiency, economy and functionality, including citizen access and delivery of public services.

    Washington, D.C., Portland, Oregon, and New York, New Orleans and Los Angeles Achieve Top Rankings in Municipal E-Governance Survey

    A national survey of city websites has identified Washington, D.C., as the top-ranked city in the performance of municipal e-governance. The research study was conducted jointly by the E-Governance Institute, School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University, Newark, and the Department of Public Administration at San Francisco State University.

According to the third quarter report, citizen satisfaction with federal Web sites improves 1.4 percent to 73.9 on ACSI's 100-point scale, making it one of the highest scoring quarters since the index was launched in 2003.

  • USA: State of Tennessee Web Site Ranked First in the Nation by Brown University

    Of the 1,569 State Government Sites Surveyed, Tennessee Earns First Place for Overall Quality of Information and Services

    In Brown University's fifth annual survey of state eGovernment performance, the state of Tennessee's official Web site (www.Tennessee.gov) earned the highest ranking in the country. Researchers at the Taubman Center for Public Policy & American Institutions at Brown University tracked Tennessee's return to the top spot this year after placing first in 2002 and fourth last year. The official Web site for Tennessee was built and is managed by TennesseeAnytime, a wholly owned subsidiary of eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq:EGOV).

  • USA: State's Web sites bring more deserved honor home to Delaware again

    With primary election campaigns at full tilt these days, it was a refreshing piece of news to hear that Delaware has once again come in No. 1 in the nation for public accessibility to its e-government Web sites.

    This study was from the Brookings Institution and Darrell M. West, vice president and director of Governance Studies. His research focused on e-government in the United States and around the world. He has been doing it since 2000. This comes on the heels of a similar top ranking awarded last year by researchers, which included Mr. West, at Brown University.

  • USA: Study ranks Indiana's Web site among best in nation; Kentucky's is average

    Indiana's official government portal, IN.gov, has been named the ninth best e-government site in the United States, according to a study by the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University.

    Kentucky.gov is ranked 21st in the country.

  • USA: Study Ranks Over 11,000 Government Websites

    E-Government Trend Report, just issued by the National Policy Research Council (NPRC), presents an analysis of all known U.S. official state and local government Web sites. The study finds the state of Michigan has the best official Web site in the country in 2006 after conducting individual analyses on more than 11,000 official government Web sites for 25 key e-government features and practices.

    Robert McArthur, former head of government organization research at the U.S. Census Bureau, led the study for NPRC. According to McArthur, all of the highest-ranked Web sites did a good job presenting and organizing information and in providing services across several broad categories.

  • USA: Survey Says State of Tennessee Has Top Website

    The State of Tennessee provides more high-quality and easy-to-use online services than any other state in the nation, according to Brown University’s 2004 survey of state and federal web sites and e-government services.

    Researchers at Brown’s Taubman Center for Public Policy this week assigned Tennessee its number one state ranking after analyzing all 50 states’ web sites.

    The federal Web portal FirstGov.gov and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's home page are the most highly rated federal Web sites, according to the seventh annual e-government analysis conducted by researchers at Brown University.

    Texas and New Jersey are the best states for e-government in the United States, according to the seventh annual e-government analysis conducted by researchers at Brown University. The federal portal FirstGov.gov and the Department of Agriculture are the most highly rated federal sites.

    Darrell M. West, director of the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University, and a team of researchers examined 1,564 state and federal sites. The researchers analyzed 1,503 state sites (an average of 30 sites per state), plus 48 federal government legislative and executive sites and 13 federal court sites. Research was completed during June and July 2006.

    Texas.gov, the official website of the State of Texas, was ranked as one of the Top 10 in the Center for Digital Government’s annual Best of the Web competition for government portal excellence. The 2010 Best of the Web competition recognizes the most innovative and user-friendly state Web portals and was conducted by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. “We are excited with the results and proud that Texas.gov was recognized for the innovative, streamlined way it provides Texans with access to government services,” said Doug Holt, Texas Department of Information Resources deputy executive director for statewide technology services. “Our efforts to significantly redesign and rebrand Texas.gov this year are paying off.”

    Official Portal for the State of Texas Moves Up 18 Places to Number One in the Seventh Annual Brown University International Study of Digital Government

    TexasOnline.com has been named the best state e-government site in the United States in the seventh annual study of state and federal e-government conducted by the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University. Researchers evaluated all 50 states, including 1,503 individual sites earlier this year for various electronic features including online publications, language translation, disability access, privacy policies, security and the number of online services.

    Utah and Maine are at the top of the list for e-government in the United States, according to the sixth annual e-government analysis conducted by researchers at Brown University. At the federal level, the White House and the Department of the State head the list of federal sites.

    The country is taking notice of Utah’s official Web site, www.Utah.gov. In the annual Best of the Web competition, Utah.gov has been ranked the third best state government Web site in the nation.

    The 2006 Best of the Web competition was conducted by the Center for Digital Government, an international research and advisory institute on the use of information technology in government. Now in its tenth year, Best of the Web evaluates government Web sites based on their innovation, Web-based delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality.
