  • PK: Punjab approves five schemes of Rs5.46 billion

    The Punjab government on Monday approved five development schemes of various sectors of the economy with an estimated cost of Rs5.46 billion.

    The approved development schemes included: Punjab Work Place Literacy Project at the cost Rs. 598.107 million, Punjab E-Gateway Project (E-Government Initiatives) (Revised) at the cost of Rs 1428.311 million, Construction of Road & Bridge between District Mianwali and Jand District Attock (Revised) at the cost of Rs. 1741.291 million, Construction of Bridge on River Ravi at Qutab Shahana in District Sahiwal at the cost of Rs. 1676.669 million and Surveying, Investigation and Feasibility Study and Detailed Design of Proposed Construction of a Bridge on River Chenab at Bhowana District Chiniot (PC-II) at the cost of Rs. 19.879 million.

  • PK: Punjab goes IT

    Punjab government has adopted a solid strategy for the promotion of modern technology in the province.

    “As Information Technology is of vital importance for speedy development, therefore we are promoting it in every field,” Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday. He was presiding over a meeting of the members of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) which reviewed administrative and financial affairs of PITB as well as gave approval to various proposals.

  • PK: Punjab Government Aims to Promote Transparency by Launching e-Stamp Paper

    The Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Dr.Umar Saif recently launched electronic stamp paper calling it as historic milestone achieved by Punjab government. Gujranwala became the first city to have an e-stamp paper of over Rs. 1000/-value. This development was revealed in a meeting held at Arfa Software Technology Park.

    During the meeting it was claimed that after the successful launch of e-stamp paper in Gujrawala, it would be soon replicated in all the cities of Punjab. With this development, Dr. Saif also made convenience for the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif who was concerned about the fake printing of large valued stamp papers and the fraud found thereafter particularly in case of selling or buying the land properties. To curb this problem, the Minister was planing to develop ICT system to overcome these shortcomings and PITB with the help of BoR turned this dream into a reality.

  • PK: Punjab govt likely to initiate regulatory body for businesses

    The Punjab government is planning to set up Punjab Industrial & Business Regulatory Authority (PIBRA), an autonomous body, to regulate businesses and facilitate investors.

    Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif has already directed for setting up of the authority and policy instruments and enforcement mechanism are being devised for the body. The authority is part of the main agenda for “Ease of doing business”.

    Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday said information technology was important for speedy development and the government had adopted a solid strategy for the promotion of modern technology in the province.

    He said that this while presiding over a meeting of members of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) which reviewed administrative and financial affairs of PITB. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said setting up of e-governance was a mission of the Punjab government and there was a need to make speedy progress for achieving this objective.

  • PK: Punjab helps KPK government introduce best ICT practices

    "The Punjab government will help Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa government to introduce best ICT practices to improve good governance and public service delivery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa," said Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Doctor Umar Saif in a meeting on Thursday with a delegation from Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa headed by provincial IT Secretary Farah Hamid Khan.

    In response of the keen interest shown by the delegates in the Punjab's IT based initiatives, Dr Saif gave an in-depth insight on the functioning of e-government projects taken for good governance and transparency in Punjab. He also talked about the board steps to enhance the efficiency of the public sectors in education, health, police, local government, food, agriculture, irrigation, livestock, disaster management and rescue. He also discussed the initiatives aiming to eliminate "Patwari and Thana Culture" in the Punjab.

  • PK: Punjab introducing biometrics system to better attendance

    Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said here on Monday that the future of Pakistan is linked with the improvement of technical education. “The majority of our population consists of young people. By equipping them with technical education, not only unemployment can be eliminated but the country can also be put on the road to progress speedily,” Shahbaz said while addressing a meeting held to review the implementation of programme of technical education being run by the Punjab Vocational Training Council.

    “Making our new generation skilful according to the needs of the market is a challenge. My government is taking all possible steps for the promotion of technical education, despite its limited resources. A challenge can be met in a better way by promoting public-private partnership. For this, a coordinated programme should be evolved for the promotion of technical education in Punjab and this programme should be implemented speedily.”

  • PK: Punjab IT Policy 2018 Set to Bridge Digital Divide-A bit too late though!!

    The recently announced Punjab IT Policy 2018 seems very promising for bridging the education, monetary, and social divide, however, it might be very precise to say that the policy has been launched at a very uncertain time-on the last day of its own existence to be precise. The government has completed its five-year term and despite the fact that Punjab IT Policy 2018 opens doors toward better economic and industrial development, it might not be taken up by the succeeding government.

    Punjab government weightily invested in Information and Technology during last few years in line to promote entrepreneurship and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption in businesses as well as in governance. Recently and precisely a day before it tenure came to an end, Punjab Government introduced the Punjab IT Policy 2018. Primarily, by doing so, it probably wants to go to elections that on the ICT Policy Front it has achieved another KPI (Key Performance Indicator). It would have been very appropriate that the document be flouted at the start of the Government term and then followed with all the IT Initiatives.

  • PK: Punjab launches e-stamping thru banks

    The Punjab government will cut role of the district treasury, revenue staff and middle men by developing data exchange among land records, registration deeds and commercial banks.

    The step will be taken in coordination with the Punjab Information Technology Board that has been working on e-governance initiative.

    Official sources told that the newly posted Senior Member Board of Revenue Capt (r) Zahid Saeed advised the concerned quarters and the PITB to speed up process in this regard.

  • PK: Punjab to follow Indian model on ‘Open Government Policy’

    The Punjab government is going to adopt ‘Open Government Policy’ to ensure transparency in the overall system by promulgating right to information law and adopt open government methodology to ensure right of information for citizens.

    This will also include declaring assets on web besides putting online the details of tax paid, details of daily meetings of chief minister, ministers and secretaries.

    A presentation prepared by the provincial Planning & Development (P&D) Department has suggested that all procurement over Rs5 Lakh should be advertised online while the monthly expenditures of the government departments and details of projects being implemented should be placed online.

    PITB official says KMC is an interactive e-resource for the development professionals, researchers, academia and public policy practitioners

    Punjab Planning and Development Department (P&DD) Chairman Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan inaugurated the Knowledge Management Centre at P&D Complex, Punjab Civil Secretariat on Friday.

    The purpose for the knowledge centre was to encourage and facilitate all employees and would not only be restricted to the employees of P&D but in fact could be used by the university students for their research projects.

    A multinational telecommunication company, Nokia, has entered into an agreement with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) for setting up a pilot project of ‘Smart City’ in Lahore.

    “During an event held at the Pakistan Pavilion of Expo 2020 in Dubai on Sunday, the PSCA successfully signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nokia for launching of a pilot project of Smart City in Lahore,” said a spokesperson for the PSCA.

    A new process of contact with government officials has been started through video conferencing for the first time in Punjab.

    Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directly received information about the steps taken with regard to possible floods in the province and issued on the spot directions through video conferencing with divisional commissioners, the irrigation minister and officials concerned.
