  • PK: Punjab: Faisalabad Police chalk out plan to launch ‘Smart City Project’

    Faisalabad city police have chalked out a comprehensive plan to launch “Smart City Project” in addition to constituting “FCCI-Police Liaison Committee” to improve the overall law and order situation in the district.

    Addressing the business community in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) here Sunday, the City Police Officer (CPO) Ghulam Mubasshir Mekan paid best tribute to the supportive role of business community and hoped that this cooperation will continue in the future for the best interest of this city and its real stakeholders.

  • PK: Punjab: IT policy aimed at bridging digital divide

    The Punjab’s IT Policy 2018, based on five pillars including support to the industry, bridging digital divide, e-governance, citizen-centric services and entrepreneurship, was approved by the provincial cabinet in its last meeting.

    The policy is focused on bridging the digital divide across gender, regions and economic classes, achieving affordable access for all and positioning Punjab as the IT research and development and innovation hub of Pakistan.

    Punjab Planning & Development Department Chairman Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan on Friday inaugurated the Knowledge Management Centre at the P&D Complex inside the Punjab Civil Secretariat.

    The purpose for this knowledge centre was to encourage and facilitate all the employees and it would not only be restricted to the employees but in fact it could be used by the university students for their research projects. The chairman congratulated the P&D team for this great initiative and also thanked heads of the allied departments in extending their support to make this happen.

    Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has partnered with Strategic Communications Organisation (SCO) to provide communication and Internet of Things (IoT) services for the Chaharbagh Smart City project. The MoU between RUDA and SCO includes services such as fiber optic installation, setting up command and control centers, and IoT solutions to ensure urban excellence in RUDA’s flagship residential project.

  • PK: Punjab: Lahore: Safe City cameras identify 79 stolen vehicles

    Under the Punjab Safe City Project, executed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), in collaboration with the Punjab Police Department, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System captured data from 74,949 vehicles and identified 79 as stolen ones, and 52,125 vehicles with non-standard number plates.

    This was highlighted during a progress review meeting, presided over by PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf here on Friday. PITB Additional Director General (ADG) Qasim Ifzal, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Adil Iqbal Khan, and other senior officials were also present.

  • PK: Punjab: MCL, PITB launch initiative to issue e-building permits for warehouses

    The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board has launched an initiative to issue e-building permits for warehouses from e-Khidmat Centre at Town Hall, Lahore.

    In this regard, an inauguration ceremony of building permits issuance was held at Town Hall, and was attended by Mayor Lahore, Secretary P&D, Sajid Latif DG e-Governance Punjab Information Technology Board, Mahmood Masood Tamana DG LG&CD and Ali Jalal Program Director PIU.

    The city will soon emerge as a smart city after installation of surveillance system by modern cameras with enhanced zooming quality.

    Initially modern cameras being installed at ten points in the city, DPO Sadiq Ali Dogar told newsmen after inaugurating command and control room at city police station under the smart city project here Monday.

  • PK: Punjab: Nokia to launch ‘Smart City’ pilot project in Lahore

    A multinational telecommunication company, Nokia, has principally agreed to launch the country’s first ‘Smart City’ pilot project in Lahore in collaboration with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).

    A spokesperson for the PSCA claimed that a four-member delegation of Nokia Qatar led by its Head of Sales for Crimea region Sayed Shady during his maiden meeting with PSCA senior officers here on Friday principally agreed to launch the Pakistan’s first ‘smart city’ pilot project in Lahore.

  • PK: Punjab: Officers’ data to go digital

    In another step towards e-governance, the Punjab government has initiated a programme to digitalise the officers’ data.

    This move will ensure a centralised data bank for the government to acquire credentials of the officers during selection boards, transfers and promotions.

    Earlier, the Punjab government had no database for the officers’ credentials.

  • PK: Punjab: Sheikhupura: DFID, admin review telemedicine project

    A delegation of the Department for International Development (DFID) and the district officer reviewed the telemedicine project that was launched by Sub-National Governance Programme under UK Aid.

    The delegation led by DFID head Ms Joana Reid met with District Coordination Officer Arqam Tariq. The matters of mutual interest, promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation in telemedicine project were discussed on the occasion.

  • PK: Punjab: Smart city project inaugurated in Jaranwala

    A Smart City Project was inaugurated in tehsil Jarranwala to maintain law and order, protection of community and security measures Wednesday.

    City Police Officer (CPO) Ghulam Mubashar Mechan inaugurated the smart city project. Superintendent Police Jarranwala Irtaza Kameel and Deputy Superintendent Police Iftikhar Ahmed were accompanied.

    On the occasion, CPO said a monitoring room was set up at SP Office for developing close liaison with emergency and security departments.

    Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has said Smart City project in Dera Ghazi Khan district will bring peace, control crime and maintain law and order.

    The chief minister congratulated DG Khan DPO Omar Saeed and praised his performance in making Smart City project operational. The chief minister said the project would bring peace and maintain law and order in the district. He said in modern times it is not possible to improve service delivery without effective use of information technology and DPO Omar Saeed Malik is one of the professional officers who maintain high standards of policing as per the requirements of modern times.

    A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between British Council and Punjab Higher Education Department here on Tuesday to collaborate in attracting the world reputed educational institutions and ICT companies to invest in the proposed Knowledge Park to be established in Lahore.

    It is mutually understood and agreed by the Punjab government and the British Council that both organisations will work together for the promotion of higher education in Punjab. British Council will also help strengthen the idea of Knowledge Park, Lahore which will bring academia and industry together to work for education and economic growth. The proposed Knowledge Park covers an area of 852 acres and is located at close proximity of Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Lahore. The MoU was signed by Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and Richard Weyers, Director Punjab, British Council.

  • PK: Reforming the bureaucracy

    The bureaucracy in Pakistan has become a relic. It is a place where people accept defaults without question, follow rules without explanation, and clung to traditions and technologies long after they have become obsolete. Except a few lonely wolves here and there, most people working there never question long held assumptions. Conformity is encouraged and rewarded. Anyone who comes up with innovative ideas is considered a heretic, a disrupter and a trouble-maker. The seniors, in particular, like subordinates who never challenge their authority and wisdom. Critical feedback is construed as insubordination and against the principle of esprit de corps. All this leads to inefficiency, lethargy, and rigidity.

  • PK: Reforms programme: SECP implements 'Once Online Forever Online'

    The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), under its reforms programme, has implemented "Once Online Forever Online" whereby online filing of subsequent returns has been made mandatory for companies to be incorporated through eService from today (May 16, 2012).

    The SECP representative Sidra Mansoor revealed this while giving a presentation to members of the Lahore Economic Journalist Association.

    This step has been taken to fully harness the real benefits of online filing facility and to invoke the true spirit of eServices regime, she said.
