  • South Korean task force to visit Latin countries to promote e-gov't system

    A team of South Korean civil servants and experts plans to head to Latin American countries later this week to promote the country's electronic public administrative system and boost bilateral cooperation in the field, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.

    The task force is scheduled to visit the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru from Aug. 3 to 12, during which they will promote the country's e-government system in a move to pave the way for local companies' making inroads into the Latin American soil.

Dabei geht es darum, PCs in den einzelnen Dezernaten und Ämtern auf den einen einheitlichen Stand zu bringen, denn bisher arbeiteten dieser Rechner mit vier unterschiedlichen Windows-Versionen.

Für neue Lizenzen und Software zahlt die Stadt jährlich 790 000 Euro. Quasi zeitgleich beschloss Münchens Stadtparlament, von Windows zum freien System Linux zu wechseln.

  • Thailand: Local developers invited to join government projects

    The Office of Computer Cluster Promotion (CCP) has been working with Thailand Science Park, the Software Industry Promotion Agency (Sipa) and Software Park Thailand to establish a project called the Open Development of e-Government Collaboration to allow local software-developers to participate in electronic-government development projects.

    CCP's director Smith Suksmith said the project would allow software-developers to join in the electronic-government cluster software-development project, which requires expertise in three areas, ie Web application, Web portal and business intelligence.

  • UK eGov projects drive Europe's public IT spend

    The UK spends more than any other European country on public sector IT, a survey has revealed. British taxpayers will shell out a hefty €20.1bn in 2005, and although the Scandinavian nations spend slightly more per head, the UK investment in technology is 40 per cent larger than France or Germany, and represents 23 per cent of the total spent across the EU.

    In total, Europe will spend €87bn on public sector IT over the next year, and by 2007, this figure will have risen to €94bn, according to research outfit, Kable. This represents just under one per cent (0.8 per cent) of the gross domestic product of the EU's member states.

    Analyst report gives much welcomed boost to the channel

    Channel players were buoyed last week by a research claiming that the UK spends more on public sector IT than any other European country.

    Analyst firm Kable's latest report ICT spend in the European Public Sector, estimated that total expenditure on ICT in the European public sector will be in excess of 87bn euros this year, and is forecast to rise to 94bn euros by 2007. Total expenditure for the UK is estimated at 20.1bn euros, 40 per cent more than either France of Germany.
