A team of South Korean civil servants and experts plans to head to Latin American countries later this week to promote the country's electronic public administrative system and boost bilateral cooperation in the field, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.

The task force is scheduled to visit the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru from Aug. 3 to 12, during which they will promote the country's e-government system in a move to pave the way for local companies' making inroads into the Latin American soil.

The team is comprised of officials from the home affairs and foreign ministries as well as experts from public entities and private firms.

South Korea, one of the world's most wired country, is a global leader in the realm of public domain used for managing state finances, tariffs, public procurement, patent data, and other administrative procedures and public records.

The system, which ranked No. 1 out of some 190 countries in the U.N. e-government systems survey of 2011 and 2012, helps promote efficiency and enables citizens to be more interactive with their administration, according to the Seoul government.

During the visit, the task force plans to meet with senior officials there and hold several forums in order to introduce South Korea's system and discuss how to boost cooperation with each nation in the administrative system, the ministry said.

"The joint team is expected to promote South Korea's e-government system in Latin America, boost chances of cooperation in real terms, and establish the foundation for local companies' advance into the region," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

South Korea has signed contracts worth US$221 million with 25 countries, mostly Asian countries such as Indonesia, India, Vietnam, the Philippines and Pakistan, to export its knowhow and technology of building e-government systems over a decade.
