  • IN: Andhra Pradesh inks deal with Wipro for e-governance

    In its bid to make a quantum leap in e-governance, Andhra Pradesh government has struck a deal with IT Major Wipro to build and implement the Andhra Pradesh State Enterprise Architecture (APSEA) in the state.

    A memorandum of understanding was reached by the state's information technology, electronics and communications department with the IT company on Monday.

    CM proposes appointment of an AI Champion in every department

    Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday unveiled a bold vision for Andhra Pradesh’s future, emphasising AI-driven governance that balances technology with human-centric solutions.

    Speaking at a two-day AI workshop, he highlighted the importance of real-time service delivery, and intelligent systems to redefine public administration. Reflecting on the State’s progress, he said, “From 2 Mbps for audio-video to gigabit connectivity today, we’ve come far.”

  • IN: Andhra Pradesh: Tribal schools, hostels under e-governance soon

    An ambitious plan is on the anvil to bring the administration of as many as 74 tribal welfare ashram schools and 45 tribal welfare hostels in the Bhadrachalam Agency under e-governance from the coming academic year. With a view to ensure transparency, the Tribal Welfare Department has initiated the process of bringing e-governance to the centre stage of hostel administration.

    According to sources, the proposed move envisages introduction of a web-based online system to effectively monitor the attendance of the students and the staff, prompt submission and payment of bills, maintenance of stock registers, implementation of the prescribed menu and other related tasks.

  • IN: Bihar beats Kerala in e-governance

    Some good news. Bihar has become the number one state in issuing different types of certificates including birth certificates and caste certificates, thanks to the introduction of e-governance in the state.

    Addressing a workshop on National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) at Wheeler Senate House here on Friday, Beltron managing director Atul Sinha said that leaving Kerala much behind, Bihar has become the leading service provider. The state has been rendering commendable service, especially in rural areas, through e-governance, he said.

  • IN: Bihar wins award for e-governance

    Bihar bagged the Computer Society of India (CSI) Nihilent e-governance 'elecon' award for 2012-13 at the CSI annual convention in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The e-governance initiative 'elecon' (for developing a scientific database on state election process) is a joint initiative of chief electoral officer, Bihar, and National Informatics Centre.

    Technical director of NIC, Bihar, Shailesh Kumar Srivastava, received the award from J Satyanarayana, secretary, IT, government of India, and SV Raghavan, scientific secretary, office of the principal scientific adviser to the PM. "In total, 200 entries were received for this award," Srivastava told TOI over phone from Visakhapatnam.

  • IN: Bihar: e-governance boost for traders

    Bihar on Thursday joined the select league of the country's states where e-governance has become the operative norm to handle matters related to inter-state and other trade and business activities by their respective commercial taxes department (CTD), as its CTD also started the online issuance of statutory C-Form to conduct inter-state trade activities by traders in compliance with the statutory norm.

    Inaugurating the launch of the online issuance of statutory C-Form here, deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, who also heads the CTD, said. "Most of our services have become online. The most satisfying part of the Bihar's e-governance story in CTD is that we are the first in the eastern region, and also ahead of Uttar Pradesh (UP)."

  • IN: Bihar: Nitish asks Centre to link RTPS with e-governance

    Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today asked the Centre to consider linking the Right to Public Service Act (RTPS) with e-Governance under Centrally-sponsored schemes, and grant assistance to the states to provide basic services to the people under this provision.

    Launching the 'Common Service Centres' run by the Vasudha centres, he said the Centre should provide financial assistance to states to run the common service centres in those states where the RTPS is in force, so that people can easily get public utility services.

  • IN: BMC pips Maharashtra in e-governance

    As the state government grapples to recover documents lost in the Mantralaya fire last year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already taken a futuristic step by computerising all its departments.

    However, although the BMC has implemented e-governance and e-office for its consumers and officials, there is a loophole in the system. Even after going through the necessary procedures, one still has to visit civic ward offices to get a final approval ‘on paper’, which defeats the whole purpose of the glorified e-office. Nevertheless, the BMC takes pride in being the first government organisation in the country to have e-governance since 2006.

    The Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Shri Sachin Pilot today informed in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha that the Common Service Centers (CSCs) are delivering Government to Citizen (G2C) and Business to Citizen (B2C) Services.

    The Common Services Centers Scheme is being implemented under a three tier Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework under which Service Center Agencies are (Private Sector entities and NGOs) are responsible for setting up of CSCs. Government provides revenue viability gap funding for four years. Services Centre Agencies are selected by the States through a competitive bidding process. The Service Center Agencies (SCAs) run the CSCs through Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).

  • IN: e-Governance 2.0: Blueprint in the making to ramp up services online

    In a bid to push adoption of e-Governance more aggressively, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has been told to embark on National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) 2.0.

    The IT Department, under which e-Governance projects are taken care of, has been instructed to commission an independent assessment of progress and impact of NeGP during the XI Plan period, so as to know ground realities.

    With 930 million mobile phones already in use in the country the next e-governance revolution will happen using the mobile phones according to Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology K Kruparani.

    Union Minister V Narayanasamy today said e-governance initiatives should be on a 'faster mode'.

    "The Union government will not shy away from helping the states. E-Governance which started 10 years ago, is staggering and it should on a faster mode," the Minister said at the valedictory function of the National e-Governance conference, which concluded here.

    Narayanasamy, who is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, stressed the need for implementation of the administrative reforms in right earnest in all states.
