Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punakanta has set out three policy fronts to pursue the Thailand 4.0 scheme.

Buddhipongse said these fronts covered digital economy, digital society and digital security. The Digital Economy and Society Ministry will also set up a Fake News Center to combat fake news in the country.

The new platform will offer a complete range of cloud services to both the public and private sectors.

A collaboration between the leading carrier-neutral data centre and cloud service provider in Thailand and the Thailand branch of a massive e-commerce company has produced the country’s first in-country interactive and artificial intelligence (AI) enabled cloud platform.

Chiang Mai Provincial Governor Supachai Iamsuwan says the northern province is on track to develop public facilities, promote tourism, and enhance the quality of life under the Smart City model.

He said the province will encourage cultural tourism, safe agriculture which helps farmers earn more income, environmental protection, trade and investment as well as the health of local residents and elderly persons.

It’s been a long time coming, and on Monday (Mar 11) we heard it again: The government is gearing up to achieve its target of 30 smart cities in 24 provinces, including Phuket, by next year and hopes to transform 100 cities nationwide to smart cities by 2022.

That’s no joke, after more than 10 years of banter and talk of big budgets to bring our island to the forefront of technology, or say the pundits claim.

Thailand’s military junta, also known as the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) came into power after a coup in 2014. Since then, it – under the leadership of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha – has received both criticism and praise from people inside and outside the country. Say what you like but the NCPO has shown initiative in leading Thailand in the right direction when it unveiled its master plan for the country’s future two years after it took control.

In 2016, the military government unveiled its newest economic initiative dubbed “Thailand 4.0”. The initiative was a master plan to get the country Industry 4.0-ready with the ultimate aim of freeing the people of Thailand from the middle-income trap by making the country a high-income nation in five years following the inception of Thailand 4.0.
