Madhya Pradesh bagged the top e-governance award for setting up a cyber treasury that allows tax payers to deposit payment from any place in the state, saving on time.

The Golden Icon award, given by the central government's IT department for e-governance, was presented by central Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and pensions Suresh Pachouri at the National e-governance convention here.

Two major ideas emerged on Saturday, the concluding day of national conference on 'e-governance'.

One, attempt should be made to bring those outside the digital divide within the fold and reach the benefits of e-governance to common man in rural areas.

Two, local language, especially Hindi, is ideally suited as the medium of e-communication in the State.

E-governance in airports will get priority in the year 2007, being declared as ‘e-administration year’ by Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) Durgashankar Mishra said on Wednesday.

Presenting the national-level best fire service award to Bajpe Fire Department at Bajpe Airport, he said the complete computerisation of bill payment, electronic data exchange will help both agencies and passengers to pay online.

The Third 'E-Readiness Assessment Report 2005' released by the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Government of India at the 10th national conference on 'e-governance' on Friday, has ranked Andhra Pradesh as the first, followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala in second, third and fourth positions respectively. Whereas, Madhya Pradesh – the host of the conference has been ranked 21 st among 35 states & union territories.

Govt to press IT button for rural development: Chouhan

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that to make e-governance initiative in Madhya Pradesh successful, information technology system should be free of administrative hassles and digital application needed to be effective.
