The portal seeks to provide comprehensive health information to its visitors - the patients. Having as its motto 'healthy information', it features reliable and professional information in an aim to educate the patients in a modern manner and, more generally, to promote a healthy living.

Hajnala said that by launching the e-auction on four contracts, the regional government managed to save almost €47,000 within four hours. The regional president, Vladimír Manka, said that 36.74 percent of financial resources were saved in the reconstruction of a secondary school in Revúca via the e-auction. Originally, the region was supposed to pay about €265,000 for reconstruction of school facilities in Revúca, Banská Bystrica and Rimavská Sobota but it managed to lower the price by nearly €47,000 by using the new process.

Informatisation of society and so-called e-government has become something like a magic formula for the future development of the country as Slovaks still need to queue in person at most public administration offices to deal with government matters. Slovakia’s high ambitions are pinned on drawing European Union funds available from the EU’s Operational Programme for the Information Society (OPIS).

Online services of the Companies Register have been available for nine months now. The interest in this service is growing although this pioneer of e-government has still not managed to overcome some of the shortcomings it has been struggling with from the beginning.

The traditional caricature of Slovak rural areas includes roads covered in mud, derelict farmer’s cooperatives, a “monopoly” of Jednota shops, pensioners sitting on porches and local news announced from loudspeakers in the village. But in addition to this a new digital gap is growing between towns and villages in Slovakia.

The reform of the healthcare system includes services such as the electronic booking of General Practitioners (GPs), GPs' online consultation, health services that are to be provided remotely, electronic prescription forms or vouchers, as well as the issuing of electronic health cards, as from 2013.

For example, customers will be able to apply for and receive documents and statements from the Land Registry, Business Register or the Criminal Record at post offices in the future.

Das Amt für Geodäsie, Kartografie und Kataster der Slowakischen Republik (ÚGKK SR) plant, bereits im Februar 2004 die Kataster-Datenbank im Internet zugänglich zu machen. Der Immobilienkataster ist gemeinsam mit den Meldedaten und dem Firmenregister eine der drei Evidenz-Datenbanken, die in der Slowakei in der Zukunft online verfügbar sein soll. Sie sollen die Basis für das slowakische E-Government bilden.

Die Bordgeräte für die elektronische Lkw-Maut in der Slowakei, die am 1. Jänner 2010 eingeführt wird, werden bereits im kommenden Oktober erhältlich sein. Das kündigte das französisch-slowakische Gemeinschaftsunternehmen SkyToll, das das Satelliten-Mautsystem errichten und betreiben wird, am Mittwoch bei einer Pressekonferenz in Bratislava an. Geliefert werden die Bordeinheiten und das elektronische Erfassungssystem vom Siemens-Konzern, dessen Maut-Kompetenzzentrum in Wien angesiedelt ist. Der Wert des Auftrags für Siemens wurde seinerzeit mit 81 Mio. Euro angegeben.

Ein so junger Staat wie die Slowakei zu sein, hat im Zeitalter des World Wide Web durchaus seine Vorteile. Denn in dem vermeintlich unscheinbaren Land in der Mitte des Kontinents, das gerade erst ein Jahrzehnt auf dem Buckel hat, gibt es deutlich weniger Aktenberge als anderswo.

Ein so junger Staat wie die Slowakei zu sein, hat im Zeitalter des World Wide Web durchaus seine Vorteile. Denn in dem vermeintlich unscheinbaren Land in der Mitte des Kontinents, das gerade erst ein Jahrzehnt auf dem Buckel hat, gibt es deutlich weniger Aktenberge als anderswo. Und so müssen auch viel weniger Daten als anderswo ins Internet gestellt werden, um unter Beweis zu stellen, dass die Slowakei über Verwaltungsstrukturen verfügt, die für das 21. Jahrhundert und damit für das Zeitalter des E-Government taugen. Und das wiederum bedeutet, dass die Administration der Slowakei sehr viel schneller als die anderer Länder nachhaltig technologisch fit gemacht werden kann.

Die Slowakei gilt in puncto Internet immer noch als Land mit erheblichem Nachholbedarf. Gerade einmal ein Fünftel der Bevölkerung leistet sich einen Internetanschluss in den eigenen vier Wänden. Das Surfen zuhause kostet jedoch mindestens zwei- bis dreimal so viel wie die entsprechenden Minuten in einem Internetcafé, und vielen ist dieser Preis für die virtuelle Erreichbarkeit rund um die Uhr zu hoch.

Taiwan is building a "smart city solution" task force for Slovakia to deploy Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for its smart city projects. It will also, in the near future, help trade partners develop industrial upgrades, said a top official of a Taipei-based trade association.
