  • MY: Cabinet to discuss MyEG’s online permit renewal move, says report

    Putrajaya is expected to discuss MyEG’s online renewal of permits for foreign workers at the Cabinet meeting next week, The Star today reported Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong as saying.

    Since there were mixed reaction on MyEG's role on the issue, Wee said he would forward the complaints and views from businesses and employers to the respective government agencies.

  • MY: CelcomDigi to boost fibre connectivity for i-City project

    Malaysian operator CelcomDigi has struck a deal with property developer I-Berhad to accelerate digital development of its ‘i-City’ smart city project, starting with lots of fibre.

    CelcomDigi says it will collaborate with I-Berhad to deploy its fibre-to-the-room (FTTR) service in i-City, delivering broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps to any room in i-City homes. The operator will offer the service at exclusive promotional prices for i-City residents, provided they’re already existing Celcom or Digi postpaid customers.

    Starting Nov 1, change of vehicle ownership can be done online as the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has closed its ‘Sikap’ computer system and replaced it with ‘mySikap’ system.

    JPJ director-general Datuk Ismail Ahmad, however, said before the new system could be used, both vehicle sellers and buyers must register at the JPJ counter for biometric verification purposes.

    “This will prevent identity theft and ease the process to change the vehicle ownership.

  • MY: DoSM: Internet access usage increased to 91.7pc in 2020

    The percentage of households having access to the Internet has increased to 91.7 per cent in 2020 from 90.1 per cent in 2019, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) today.

    Chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said access to mobile phones and computers also increased to 98.6 per cent and 77.6 per cent, respectively, in 2020.
