  • GH: Gov’t pilots e-payment system

    Minister of Communications Dr. Edward Omane Boamah says government’s shared e-payment being piloted by 12 selected Metropolitan and Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) has received an overwhelmingly positive response.

    Speaking at the opening of the first e-Commerce Expo, Dr. Omane Boamah said introduction of the e-system shows government to e-commerce has already rolled-out a set of e-services which include web content management, e-Forms and Document Work Flow.

  • GH: Government committed to improve ICT in MDAs-Veep

    Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday said government had embarked on high speed broadband infrastructure to connect all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve access to information and services for the citizenry and businesses.

    "The massive and modern infrastructure network is being developed under the Ghana-China Cooperation to make the deployment of enabling applications in governance, health, education and agriculture possible," he added.

    This was contained in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Ernest Attuquaye Armah, Deputy Minister of Communication at the launch of e-Government Leadership Capacity Building programme in Accra.

  • GH: Government committed to promote ICT – Dr Mustafa

    Dr Mustapha Ahmed, Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology has reiterated government’s commitment to promote the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

    He said government in 2011 set out a-four-year Science and Technology Innovation Development Plan aimed at achieving some specific projects and its implementation.

    These include establishing an ICT Park in Ghana, promoting access to computers, the internet and computing device, expanding and enhancing the capacity of ICT training facilities and promoting the productive application of ICT through activities such as e-teaching, e-commerce, e-banking and e-health and telemedicine.

  • GH: Government earmarks $5million for e-justice

    Government is to allocate five million dollars for the next phase of the e-justice system to enhance administration and delivery of justice in the country.

    Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, announced this on Tuesday at the inauguration of a Huawei TP 3006 telepresence video conferencing equipment donated to the judiciary in Accra.

    The e-justice project seeks to infuse Information Communication Technology (ICT) products into the judiciary.

  • GH: Government gives EC GH¢ 50 million for biometric voters register

    The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Kwabena Duffour has stated that government has released funds to enable the Electoral Commission implement the new biometric voting register as the country looks to advance the cause of democracy through transparent, free and fair elections.

    The minister made this revelation on the floor of parliament when he presented a supplementary budget to the House worth GH¢1,463,123,559.

  • GH: Government institutions to implement biometric attendance record

    Ministries and other government institutions would soon be required to implement a biometric attendance record, as a tool to undertake a productivity survey to benchmark productivity against salaries and pay in the public sector.

    The attendance record, which would be implemented and monitored by the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare, is expected to boost productivity, a major challenge currently bedeviling both the public and private sector.

  • GH: Government is committed to providing ICT skills to people with disabilities - President Mahama

    President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday said his government was committed to providing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills to people with disabilities so as to contribute their quota to national development.

    He said under the senior high school computerized project, some of the graduates would be integrated into the mainstream as ICT instructors or trainers while others would be maintained to repair broken down computers.

  • GH: Government is keen on establishing a digital economy - Minister

    Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications, said Government was keen on establishing a digital economy which would improve efficiency of government business.

    She said the Ministry of Communications was currently implementing a number of projects under the e-Transform initiative namely e-Immigration, e-Parliament, e-Procurement, Tertiary Institutions Connectivity Programme and e-Justice to achieve that goal.

    Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Communication, has described Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as an indispensable and veritable tool for enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in all aspects of life.

    He therefore reiterated the government’s commitment to continue to promote the deployment and mainstreaming of ICT in all sectors of the economy.

  • GH: Government makes giant strides in ICT growth

    Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communication on Monday observed that government has made giant strides in transforming the country into a modern information-rich and knowledge based society in terms of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) development.

    He said the benefits of ICT could be applied to facilitate socio-economic development to bring enormous benefits to Ghanaians. Government therefore, remained committed to promote digital literacy in the country to ensure that the people reap full benefits of ICT usage.

    Mr Iddrisu made the observation when the Ministry of Communication took its turn on the Meet-the-Press series organised by the Ministry of Information.

  • GH: Government must show leadership in Internet drive

    Government must show leadership and political will in promoting its eGovernment services and driving Internet penetration, a new report on the impact of Internet in Africa has said.

    The report, which showcased the positive socio-economic impact of the Internet in Ghana and across Africa, said “capturing the Internet’s potential for economic growth and social gains requires thinking and acting collaboratively, often across sectors,” adding that “harnessing ICT is an endeavour that involves multiple policy actors across multiple sectors.”

    The report, commissioned by Google and launched in Accra this week, was conducted by Dalberg Global Development Advisors, an international management consultancy firm.

  • GH: Government rolls out e-Gates project at ports

    Government has inaugurated another innovative digital programme dubbed, ‘e-gates’ at some major ports of entry in the country.

    The initiative forms part of efforts to fully digitize the Ghanaian economy in line with President Akufo-Addo’s e-government vision for the country.

  • GH: Government services to be accessed online

    The government has established two online service portal platforms to provide the public effective and efficient means of accessing government services online. The portals are the E-service and the Ghana e-Payment Platform (GEPP).

    The portals form part of several projects sponsored by the World Bank under the e-Ghana project being implemented by the Ministry of Communications and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).

  • GH: Government to continue to provide ICT emtrepreneurship - Minister

    Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Communications, said Government would continue to provide an enabling environment for Information Communication Technology (ICT) entrepreneurship to thrive.

    He said the Ministry of Communications is revising Ghana’s ICT Policy as part of Government efforts to enhance ICT entrepreneurship and to address contemporary technology trends and threats in addition to environmental issues.

    Dr Boamah said this at the graduation ceremony of 193 trainees of the Advance Information Technology Institute of Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence (KACE) in ICT on the theme: "ICT Entrepreneurship: “Exploring Opportunities for National Development,” in Accra on Saturday.

  • GH: Government to front the move of ICT integration

    Participants at the on-going 65 th Annual New Year School and Conference on Wednesday called on the government to front the move of integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) fully into all sectors of the country.

    This was to ensure a coordinated approach to the integration of ICT usage, promote local software development, improve knowledge and education as well as publicize authentic sources of these facilities for sourcing.

  • GH: Government to use biometric data to pay workers

    Public sector workers will now be paid using their biometric data, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has said.

    This follows the completion of the biometric payroll registration exercise in six regions and the expectation that a similar exercise in the remaining four regions will be completed in July this year.

  • GH: Government to use ICT to engage youth in decision making - Humado

    Mr. Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports, on Friday said plans were underway to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT), to create an electronic platform to engage the youth in the decision making process of the country.

    He said policy issues pertaining to the youth would be made available on the National Youth Authority website to be debated on by the youth and come out with recommendations, which would be forwarded to Parliament for consideration. Mr. Humado announced this when Mr. Seth Oteng, Executive Director of Youth Bridge Foundation, and some African youth delegates paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.

  • GH: Government to use mobile telephony to collate birth and death data

    Mr. Haruna Iddrissu, Minister of Communications, on Friday announced that government would from next year attempt to use mobile telephony to collate death and birth statistics across the country.

    He said in Ghana there was no reliable and accurate information on births and deaths but since the number mobile phone users has increased, it would be possible to access how many people have given birth and how many have been lost in the course of planning by using one of the network.

  • GH: Government trains personnel in Information Technology and Management

    Government is training a critical mass of Information Technology and Information Management personnel to be deployed in the public service.

    Mr Ernest Attuquaye Armah, Deputy Minister of Communication announced this at the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day observed in Accra on Thursday. It is on the theme: "Women and Girls in ICT".

    He said the deployment formed part of the Ghana Public Service Information Technology and Information Management scheme of Service to guide and regulate the recruitment of personnel.
