Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Communication, has described Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as an indispensable and veritable tool for enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in all aspects of life.

He therefore reiterated the government’s commitment to continue to promote the deployment and mainstreaming of ICT in all sectors of the economy.

Dr Boamah said this at the inauguration of a “One-Stop Service Center,” established by the Ministry to facilitate the delivery of government services to citizens under the e-Government programme.

The One-Stop Service Center is an integrated administration service center meant for about 20 government agencies including Ghana Post, Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Police Service to facilitate Government-to-Citizen and Citizen-to-Government interaction.

The e-Government project in the first phase delivered Long Term Evolution (LTE) network provided Tele-Presence deployment, Call Center for e-Government services, and Metro fibre.

It also provided Local Area Network for Government Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs), Secondary Data Center in Kumasi, supply of Desktop Computers and other ICT terminal equipment to MDAs, and now, the One-Stop Service Center.

Dr Boamah said the First Phase of the project was supporting the operations of government institutions and supplying broadband speed faster than that provided by the local carriers.

He said LTE technology had been deployed to facilitate data transmission at fourth Generation speed levels to ensure that the service center provides one-stop services for all Ghanaians with fast and professional business operations by the Agencies in the center.

The Minister said the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) will provide the technical back-stopping to ensure the maintenance of high-performing service levels.

NITA will also ensure economic operations of the facility for sustainability and repayment of the Government’s obligations towards the e-Government Platform Project, he said.

He commended Huawei Technologies for the fast delivery of the project and the deployment of latest ICT technology which is also a demonstration of what the e-Government Platform Project will provide when completed.

Mr William Teve, Director General of NITA, said the One-Stop-Service Center was part of NITA and the Ministry of Communication collaboration to improved ICT infrastructure in the country.

Mr Abdulai Abdul-Rafiu, Managing Director of Ghana Post said the center fits very well into the strategy of the modernization of the Ghana Post nationwide which is to ensure a professional delivery of service of Government agencies to the citizenry.
