Bangladesh has turned around from poverty due to unhindered use of information and communication technology and thousands of youths were being recruited at different institutions in this sector.
The information and communication technology affairs state-minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Saturday said this, adding that the ICT had now turned as the third largest field of foreign exchange earner in the country after the garments and remittance sectors.
Planning Minister MA Mannan on Monday underscored the need for more research data so that the government can make better decisions.
He came up with the comments while addressing a workshop titled ‘Innovations in Public Service Delivery’ held at the BRAC Centre Inn in the capital.

Bangladesh has been ranked 115th in the United Nations E-Government Survey 2018 among the 193 countries moving nine notches up from its previous 124th position in 2016.
According to the UN survey report, Bangladesh is the highest ranked least developed country (LDC), an official of Access to Information (a2i) programme told UNB on Sunday.

South Korea is ready to support new areas of cooperation to help Bangladesh become a developed country by 2041.
Interacting with journalists on Tuesday, Joe Hyun-Gue Country Director of South Korea’s development agency, KOICA, said Bangladesh was a “priority” country when it came to development cooperation.

It is hardly a subject that is discussed in the public domain nowadays, but one recalls “Digital Bangladesh” being the centrepiece of the ruling party's electoral campaign in 2008 and onwards. The aim was to transform the bureaucracy-ridden system, making it faster, more efficient and of course less prone to graft. But such a grandiose mission, till now, remains largely unaccomplished.
The finance minister in his budget speech eight years ago promised to establish e-government—the use of information and communication technologies by the public service organisations—by 2014. It is 2018, and yet Ahsan H Mansur, executive director of the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh, wouldn't give the government the pass mark for its digitisation efforts.
