E-commerce involves buying and selling of products and services by businesses and consumers through an electronic medium. Broadly, e-commerce is classified into four categories: business to business or B2B (Cisco), business to consumer or B2C (Amazon), consumer to consumer or C2C (eBay) and Business-to-Government (B2G).

Business-to-business e-commerce involves agreements between the businesses and businesses. Distribution management, inventory management, channel management, supplier management and payment management are some of the areas in which B2B applications are widely used. In Bangladesh, bgmea.com.bd, bizbangladesh.com are examples of B2B platforms.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday stressed the need for filtering the harmful digital contents properly, urging the people not to share anything on internet or social media without verification.

‘Digital technologies are creating a scope in one hand, while many problems arise for it on the other hand. Many unnecessary links appear while going to use mobile phone or internet … So, arrangements will have to be made to filter harmful digital contents properly,’ she said.

This plan could not have come any sooner

One of the best initiatives that the government has taken over the last decade is Digital Bangladesh -- an initiative which plans to bring technologies with the specific aim to make the lives of the people of this country easier and better.

And, to a great extent, this dream of a Digital Bangladesh has been pushed closer and closer to reality, be it through greater internet penetration or the construction of Hi-Tech Parks across the nation.

‘One Pay’ ‘One Service’ and ‘One Shop’ in one platform

Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, “The name of Bangladesh will be added to the list of top 50 countries in the United Nations’ (UN) e-governance development index by the next five years expanding and developing its digital services.

He came up with the remarks while addressing the program on the launching of e-government master plan report and A2i’s three citizen services at the city’s ICT tower yesterday.
