The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) signed at Qitcom yesterday seven MoUs with international organisations in support of the Smart Qatar (Tasmu) programme that will create access to cutting-edge research and expertise, and serve as a platform for valuable international collaborations.

The MoUs were signed by MoTC’s Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Society Development, Reem al-Mansoori, and senior managers from the Qatar Stock Exchange, International Smart City Research Centre in Beijing, Huawei, e-Government Academy of Estonia, and UI Labs on behalf of City Digital in Chicago.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday launched the Qatar Digital Government (QDG) Training Programme, a new strategic initiative developed under the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) to improve the information and communication technology (ICT) skills of government employees.

Through specialised, accredited e-government training, the QDG Training Programme aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of government services in line with the Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy, the MoTC has said in a press statement.

The electronic link between the General Authority of Customs (GAC) and all the related ministries, organisations and entities is expected to be completed in July with the launch of its final stage with Milaha Maritime & Logistics, it was announced yesterday.

“The e-link will offer great benefits by easing the customs procedures,” Abdelhadi Hassan al-Sahli, director of the marine customs at GAC, explained in an interview released to the media.

Expanding scope of e-services for citizens, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has started issuance and renewal of identification cards and Qatari passports through Metrash 2 mobile phone application.

This service has become available electronically on Metrash 2 from February 22 this year. The service is part of the initiatives of the Ministry of Interior to expand its e-services and simply the various procedures.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Supreme Judicial Council yesterday signed a memorandum of under-standing (MoU) to modernise and develop courts electronically. Minister of Transport and Communications and Chairman of Qatar e-GOV2020 Steering Committee, H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, and Head of the Court of Cassation and President of the Supreme Judiciary Council, Masoud Mohamed Al Amirthe, attended the signing ceremony yesterday. The MoU was signed by Khalid Sadiq Al Hashmi, Assistant Undersecretary, Cyber Security Sector at MOTC and Judge Dr Hassan Mohammed Al-Muhannadi, advisor to the President of the Supreme Judiciary Council.
