As part of its integrated digital transformation project, the Ministry of Municipality has launched six new electronic services designed to streamline procedures for fishermen and ship owners.

The services include renting a parking lot for marine vessels at the port, renting a warehouse at the port, fishing licensing for ships and boats, fish transport licensing, fishermen's licensing, and fishing equipment permits.

Qatar could become a new model for urban living owing to its world-class infrastructure and focus on building smart cities, such as Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD) and Lusail City, a top official of LuLu Group said.

Acknowledging the growing trend for cognitive cities due to artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and rapid technological advancements, Dr Mohamed Althaf, director of LuLu Group International, said Qatar would be an “interesting” testing ground for different pilot projects.

Qatar wrapped up yesterday its participation in the Cityscape Global 2024 exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Minister of Municipality H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah chaired the Qatari delegation to the four-day event.

Addressing the conference, Al Attiyah detailed the Qatar National Vision 2030, along with the key underway projects to create a sustainable society based on the knowledge economy. He highlighted the Ministry of Municipality’s commitment to ensure the alignment of the country’s urban planning with the economic and social development goals - which improves the quality of life and sustainability.

A new business case study examining the challenges of managing a smart city project in Qatar is being integrated into Carnegie Mellon University Qatar (CMU-Q)’s curriculum, thanks to a collaboration between Meeza and Msheireb Properties.

Titled “Meeza QSTP (Qatar Science and Technology Park) and Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD): A Smart City Project”, the study is set to provide students with a relevant and thought-provoking analysis of a real-world smart city initiative.
