  • IN: Uttar Pradesh: Prayagraj improves its Smart City ranking, now stands at 11th position

    While the Sangam city has been witnessing development work under the Smart City Project adding to its beauty, the pace and quality of execution has resulted in hauling the city to the 11th rank among the 100 smart cities of the country in terms of development being done under Smart City.

    The Union ministry of urban development and housing released the ranking of 100 Smart Cities of the country on Tuesday. As per the list of March 2021, Prayagraj was at 15th place whereas in the list issued in March 2022, the city has improved its ranking and now is at 11th place.

    In a remarkable feat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi has bagged the first position among the 100 smart cities of the country in project implementation on the basis of completed and progressive ongoing projects.

    Bhopal is ranked second, followed by Surat on third and Ahmedabad on the fourth rung in the list. Two more cities from Uttar Pradesh are in the top 10 of the list, with Agra on seventh and Kanpur on eighth.

  • India falls by five places in UN e-gov survey 2012

    Even Maldives and Sri Lanka rank above India on the list

    India has fallen by five places in the UN e-government survey 2012 from 119 in 2010 to 124 in 2012. The survey which was released on March 6, 2012 places the Republic of Korea at the top position followed by the Netherlands.

    United Kingdom (UK), Denmark and the United States of America (USA) follow in ranking in that order. USA has slipped by three positions and is placed at fifth position as compared to the second position two years ago.

    India hold the 58th position in the world on e-readiness ranking - an important measure of a digital society, Minister of State for Information Technology Sachin Pilot informed the Rajya Sabha today.

    Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, he said e-readiness is the measure of the quality of country's information community technology (ICT) infrastructure and ability of its consumers, businesses and Government to use ICT for their benefit.

  • India makes massive leap in UN E-Government Survey, secures 96th position

    The UN E-Government Survey 2018 has ranked India at 96 position for its performance in development and execution of information technologies, up from 107 in 2016 and 118 in 2014, in what can be termed as a massive leap over the years.

    The survey, published every two years, ranks 193 UN member states on basis of their performance on mainly three dimensions or e-governance development index (EGDI): online service index (OSI), telecommunication infrastructure index (TII), and human capital index (HCI).

  • India ranks 87 in e-governance readiness

    North American countries and Europe retain leadership position

    India slipped one point and is ranked 87 in the global e-government readiness rankings 2005.

    According to the 'UN Global E-government Readiness Report 2005: From E-government to E-Inclusion', India's e-government readiness is 0.4001, compared with the world average of 0.4267 in 2005.

  • India Smart Cities Awards 2020: UP best smart state, Surat, Indore best cities

    The northern state won for shortlisting seven more cities to transform into smart cities.

    Uttar Pradesh is the top performer among all Indian states in rankings given by the Centre’s Smart Cities Mission project, followed by Madhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the Union government said on Friday, releasing the results of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2020.

  • India: Delhi named best state for e-governance by Dataquest

    India’s national capital has been declared the best e-governed state in the country by leading technology magazine Dataquest. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit received the award from Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah at a gala event here late Wednesday.The other winners included Lakshmi Narayanan of Cognizant Technology Solutions as IT person of the year, Sanjeev Bhikchandani of Naukri.com as the path-breaker of the year and D.B. Pathak of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Mumbai for lifetime achievement.

    The recent Dataquest-IDC e-Governance Survey has identified Delhi, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala as the five best e-governed states of 2007.

    The next five positions were bagged by Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Punjab.

  • India: Haryana tanked 6th in the country in e-readiness

    As per the latest e-readiness assessment report released by the Government of India, the state of Haryana has improved its ranking in the country by six positions, from 15th to 9th in the last two years in the field of Information Technology (IT).

    While disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the State Information Technology Department said that the Haryana Government had formulated its e-governance roadmap and capacity building roadmap. In implementation of the core infrastructure project of State Wide Area Network (SWAN), Haryana has fallen under the category of level one states in the country, he added.

  • India: Himachal leads in e-governance, but lags in e-business

    Riding the IT bandwagon, Himachal Pradesh is emerging a clear leader in e-governance with yet another survey indicating the state’s enviable position.

    This time, a study conducted for CyberMedia’s fortnightly publication Dataquest has placed Himachal at the second spot, just behind Tamil Nadu, in terms of most e-governed states in India for 2008-09. Delhi, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh have secured 3rd, 4th and 5th positions, respectively. Himachal has jumped five places from its previous position as per the survey, but ironically the same kind of resurgence is not visible in IT-enabled business in the state.

  • India: Himachal Named Second Best in e-Governance

    In an assessment done by India Tech Foundation, Mumbai on application of IT and its use in Government institutions in each state, Himachal Pradesh has emerged as the second best among all the states in India for its latest e-governance initiatives.

    The e-governance initiatives taken up by the state has helped the government to provide a transparent, speedy and cost effective service in public and private domains. Himachal Pradesh happens to be the first state to launch state-wide area network in the country. A network operation centre has also been set up to provide unified placement of data for the entire state at one place for this.

    A report and chart prepared by National Council of Applied Economics and Research (NCAER) has put the state in the category of “average achiever” establishing that it is no longer a “least achiever” on the e-governance front.

The awards were given away by the Tourism Minister Shri Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at a function today.

  • India: Tamil Nadu the best e-governed state: IDC survey

    Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have emerged among the top five e-governed states in India in 2008-09, says a national e-governance survey.

    Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have climbed three spots over their last years ranking to emerge as the No 1 and No 5, respectively as per the survey conducted for the year 2008-09 by IDC, a global provider of market intelligence for IT.

    Waseda University Institute of e-government in Tokyo, Japan has released its annual report entitled Waseda University International e-Government Ranking. The 2009 report is the fifth report on the observation of e-government development in the world.
