As per the latest e-readiness assessment report released by the Government of India, the state of Haryana has improved its ranking in the country by six positions, from 15th to 9th in the last two years in the field of Information Technology (IT).

While disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the State Information Technology Department said that the Haryana Government had formulated its e-governance roadmap and capacity building roadmap. In implementation of the core infrastructure project of State Wide Area Network (SWAN), Haryana has fallen under the category of level one states in the country, he added.

He said that by spending an amount of Rs. 102.62 crore, all the offices of the state up to block level would be connected with SWAN by October 31, 2007. He said that the State Government had formulated the IT Policy for promoting the Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Industries in the state. He said that various facilities like preferential allotment of land for IT industries, priority in time bound loans, relaxation in pollution control, rebate in stamp duty, exemption from electricity duty for five year to new IT units were being provided to the entrepreneurs.

The spokesperson said that Gurgaon has emerged as the most preferred destination for private entrepreneurs who were willing to invest in IT and BPO companies and it has become the hub of corporate world in India. He said that the State Government had been setting up a high-tech habitat centre for IT and BPO companies in the electronic city of Gurgaon in which world class facilities would be provided. Due to the persistent efforts of the present State Government the state has become the one of the largest exporters of the software in the country, he added.

He informed that to encourage the private entrepreneurs for the investment in the field of frontier technologies like Nano-technology, Mobile Computing, Robotics, the State Government had issued the licenses for setting up the technology Parks. Eleven such projects had been approved in principle up to now, which would provide the employment opportunities for nearly 45000 IT professionals.
