  • India: Punjab Governor launches first e-Gram Samparak centre in UT village

    Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh , Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, Monday launched an innovative programme, by inaugurating e-Gram Sampark Centre with state-of-the-art facilities, at village Khuda Jassu, a part of Union Territory.

    This ground-breaking project envisages the setting up of such rural knowledge centers, covering all the remaining villages of Union Territory in a phased manner by the end of this year.

  • India: Punjab govt signs MoU with pvt bodies for citizen-centric services

    In order to provide various citizen-centric services to the masses, the Punjab government has signed master service agreements with three private partners - All-India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology, Basix India and Vakrangee Softwares Limited and consortium partner M/s Callance Software Pvt Ltd. The three players would manage 2,112 common service centres across the state.

    These Common Service Centres (CSCs) would be set up in villages in an equitable geographical spread with active participation from local rural youths for empowering the citizen through information dissemination and market linkages. The CSC scheme is being rolled-out on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model as part of National e-Governance Plan.

  • India: Punjab govt to pay bonus on paddy directly to farmers

    Punjab government has decided to pay the Rs.50 per quintal bonus on paddy directly to the farmers which is considered a first step towards making full payment of crop to the farmers directly into their accounts. The government would also introduce crop insurance for marginal farmers from rabi season.

    Adesh artap Singh Kairon minister for food and supply Wednesday said that this was for the first time that bonus would be paid directly to the farmers based on the records obtained from mandis. The minister said that database of paddy sold by farmers was being computerised every day. He said that even government has proposed to issue J form to the farmers online. He said that this was major step towards e-governance in agriculture which is based on Singapore model.

  • India: Punjab minister for cooperation between states in IT sector

    The development of IT in this region is based on cooperation amongst states instead of competition, Punjab IT minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon said here today.

    Mr Kairon alongwith the senior officers of Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh Administration and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) made these observations while announcing the mega IT event, e-Revolution 2007 to be held On August 2-3 here.

  • India: Punjab panchayats to be computerised

    In a bid to strengthen the panchayati raj institutions in Punjab, the functioning of the local bodies would be computerised under national e-gram panchayats scheme.

    Rural development and panchayat minister Ranjit Singh Brahmpura today said that a scheme to connect all Gram Panchayats (GPs) with national e-governance would be launched in all the districts and 90 per cent cost would be borne by the Centre.

    It has signed a MoU with Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation (Punjab Infotech) for providing computer training to cops

    The Punjab Police, aiming at making all its personnel computer literate, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation (Punjab Infotech) for providing computer training to them.

    The training to police personnel across all ranks would be given at Centre for Advance Learning in Computer (CAL-C) centres.

  • India: Punjab Pollution Control Board turns e-savvy, moves towards online permissions

    Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) today decided to display the consent status of industry/project proposals on its Website. The Board aims to turn industry-friendly by soon introducing an online application system for various permissions and consents, to spare industrialists visits to its offices.

    Disclosing this here today, PPCB's Member Secretary Babu Ram said whenever an application seeking consent to establish or operate a unit or renew permission is filed with the concerned regional office of the Board, it shall be entered into the database the same evening.

  • India: Punjab prepares Rs.84 crore proposal for crime and criminal tracking network and systems

    Punjab DGP P.S.Gill Thursday underlined the need for recent advancements in information technology and communication as an important tool of investigation besides revamping communication network of the force to meet future cyber challenges being posed by the hi-tech criminals.

    Presiding over a meeting of the Punjab State Empowered Committee for the implementation of Crime Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS Project) here Gill said that new inventions in IT and communications besides helping the investigators were posing a great challenge for security forces as criminals were using latest fads in technology to hoodwink the security network. He said that challenge before security forces was to move to step ahead the hi-tech criminals to pre-empt their nefarious designs.

  • India: Punjab PWD to start e-tendering from Jan 2008

    The Punjab PWD (B&R) department has decided to introduce the revolutionary policy of e-tendering and e-procurement from January 2008 to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of department.

    Presiding over the meeting of Executive Board of Punjab Roads Bridges Development Board here this morning the PWD(B&R)Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said PWD (B&R) Department has been included in the first phase of computerization by the Department of IT by introducing e-procurement. He said that Government has decided that from 15th Jan, 2008 all works above Rs. 1.0 crores would be tendered electronically. Department of Information & Technology was in the process of establishing a suitable platform for these services. The Minister said that this would introduce greater competition and transparency in the public procurement.

    e-Services are at your door steps in Punjab. Punjab State e-Governance Society through Department of IT, Punjab announces the implementation of e-District Solution using Humanitics e-District Platform.

    Punjab state government and HCL Infosystems Ltd. entered into an agreement today to deliver e-District Services to the citizen. As a part of the project, prime bidder HCL Infosystems shall deliver a state of the art platform to deliver electronic services to the common citizen. HCL shall deliver these services using Humanitics Dimension's e-District Platform.

  • India: Punjab to introduce e-stamping to curb revenue leakage

    To revamp the present system of collection of stamp duty and plug the leakage of revenue, the Punjab government Thursday announced that it would soon introduce e-stamping in the state.

    This decision was taken here at a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Thursday after a detailed presentation made by Arvinder Singh Bains, the director of land records settlement, consolidation and land acquisition.

  • India: Punjab to provide e-convenience in all local bodies

    Soon, people in all of the state's districts will be able to pay their house tax and water bills, claim arrears and submit various government forms all under one roof, a minister announced here Tuesday.

    The state plans to set up e-governance centres in all municipal towns and cities through the public-private partnership mode, minister for local bodies Manoranjan Kalia said.

    'The project aims to bring high levels of citizen satisfaction through integrated service delivery on anytime, anywhere basis,' Kalia said after a pre-bid meeting here Tuesday.

  • India: Punjab to roll out e-District pilot project

    Initially it will be rolled out in two districts — Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahar)

    Punjab is gearing up to roll out e-District pilot projects in Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahar) districts of the state.

    It would be implemented by State e-Governance Society (PSeGS) under the aegis of Department of Information Technology. The pilot will be followed by statewide rollout in remaining 18 districts.

  • India: Punjab to set up common service centres for masses

    In order to use Information & Communication Technology (ICT) as a vehicle for effective governance and to empower its citizens, the Punjab government plans to set up common service centres across the state. The state government plans to set up 2,112 common service centres (CSC) in the state, especially in rural areas — one per six villages. Officials in the Information Technology (IT) Department said the project would be partly funded by the centre and the state government.

  • India: Punjab to spend US$10.5m on e-govt infrastructure

    The Punjab Information Technology Department also announced that it is hiring 'world class' IT professionals to implement its e-government vision.

    According to Punjab Information Technology Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will spearhead the development of a 'genuine e-government culture' through investment in infrastructure and key personnel.

    Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen S F Rodrigues (retd), while inaugurating the All-India Mayors Conference here today, emphasised on the need of making municipal governance more responsive and accountable with the focus on partnership and building up a system to redress the grievances of the common man.

    Rodrigues said in a democratic system the rule of law was paramount, which envisages there should be no preferential treatment to anyone. It is the duty of all elected representatives to rise above the vested interests and personal priorities and to serve the people effectively.

    Aiming at strengthening three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the state, the functioning of Gram Panchayats in Punjab will be strengthened through computerization under ePRI scheme of National e-Gram Panchayats.

    Ranjit Singh Brahmpura Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Punjab expressed this on Monday.

  • India: Punjab: e-governance: City taken for pilot project

    The Department of Local Government, Punjab, has decided to computerise the working of the Municipal Corporations and Councils in the state.

    The Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, has been identified for the pilot project. Municipal Commissioner Vikas Pratap said that for this assignment, Punjab government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft, the international IT company.

  • India: Punjab: FIR registration IT savvy in Mohali

    Punjab government's e-governance project got a shot in the arm on Thursday with Mohali police computerizing registration of First Information Report (FIR) in the entire district.

    The move would benefit thousands of those visiting police stations to get their complaints registered as computerization would not only streamline the system, but also make the process speedy. The police stations where the new process has been made applicable include Phases I & VIII, Kharar, Kurali, Sohana, Zirakpur, Derabassi and Lalru.
