It has signed a MoU with Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation (Punjab Infotech) for providing computer training to cops

The Punjab Police, aiming at making all its personnel computer literate, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation (Punjab Infotech) for providing computer training to them.

The training to police personnel across all ranks would be given at Centre for Advance Learning in Computer (CAL-C) centres.

"This basic training will set a base for further role base training on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network Systems (CCTNS) project, which falls under the national e-Governance plan to modernise the police force giving top priority to enhancing outcomes in the area of crime investigation and criminal detections,” a Punjab police senior officer said.

The 90-hour training module will be spread over 18-day period and is designed to meet the requirements of the Punjab Police. A batch of 15 to 20 police personnel is being formed for better interaction.

CAL-C has 125 centres in Punjab. Between 10,000 and 20,000 police personnel are to be trained at these centres in the next one year.

“This is a high priority activity of Punjab Infotech to upgrade the IT skills as well as make the e-Governance initiatives of the government succeed by maximising the use of ICT,” Punjab Infoctech MD Rakesh Verma said.
