  • Huge savings expected from Bahrain's new e-government portal

    Bahrain's new e-government portal, launched last month, is expected to help the government cut expenses up to 90 per cent, according to the official spokesman for Bahrain's eGovernment services.

    'Bahrain is a small country and we do not have mass production, but we are talking of savings of 90 to 95 per cent on overhead costs,' Mohammed al-Qaed told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa this week.

  • iGA urges Public to Complete Transactions via Bahrain.bh

    With the current situation at hand & in line with its commitment to protect its employees and the public, the Information eGovernment Authority (iGA) urges the public to complete their ID Card transactions through the National Portal, bahrain.bh.

    The National Portal offers more than 10 Identity card services in both English and Arabic, including ID renewals issuance of replacement cards; issuance of cards for domestic workers, children under 4 years old and others under applicants’ custodies; enquiries about application statuses; and a range of other services that spare users from physically visiting the ID Card Centers.

  • Inauguration of Bab Al Bahrain electronic website

    Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and Head of the Higher Committee for Information Technology and Telecommunications, inaugurated today, Bab Al Bahrain Electronic website. Present at the inaugural ceremony were Deputy Premier and Minister of Transportation, Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Premier's Court, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Municipalities and Agricultural affairs, Ali Saleh Al Saleh, Interior Minister, Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Education Minister, Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi, State Minister and President of the National Oil and Gas Authority, Dr. Abdulhossein Mirza, Minister of Social Development, Dr. Fatma Al Blushi, State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and President of the Central Informatics Organization, Shaikh Ahmed bin Atiyat-allah Al Khalifa. Also present were representatives from the Central Informatics Organization, Batelco Board Chairman, Price Waterhouse, journalists, media people and guests.
  • Interactive Search Engine provides new features on Bahrain.bh

    The eGovernment Authority has devoted more time to develop the Search Engine on the National Portal (Bahrain.bh), which was inaugurated by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology, last April during the official opening of Bahrain International eGovernment Forum.

    The engine is connected with a unified database, linked to all government websites available on the internet, supported with new features, adopted with the latest standards in accordance with the best international practices.

  • Jobs4Bahrainis.com wins top honours

    Jobs4Bahrainis.com, the first private sector initiative dedicated exclusively to getting more locals into the workforce, has won the Bahrain eContent Award 2011 in the eInclusion category.

    Jobs4Bahrainis is a joint venture between Gulf Connexions, Bahrain's leading recruitment company and Al Hilal Group, a top publishing organisation in the region.

    Against strict evaluation criteria, the website won the accolade for, among other reasons, its support for steps to integrate IT into the information society in Bahrain; its commitment to reducing the ‘digital divide’ and content gap between technology-empowered and technology-excluded communities and groups; and bridging society through multimedia.

  • Korea's First e-Gov't System Shipped to Middle East Goes Live in Bahrain

    The Business Licensing Integrated System (BLIS), which is cited as LG CNS's first export of its e-government system to the Middle East, has opened to the public. Under the circumstances that President Park Geun-hye is actively seeking to expand exports of e-government systems to the Middle East, there is increasing anticipation that BLIS will be a bridgehead for exports of ICT to the Middle East.

    BLIS is a system of online corporate registration and business licensing in Bahrain, and the central government of the country set out to establish the system as one of its national strategy projects in order to achieve its Economic Development Vision 2030.

  • Major e-govt forum to open in Bahrain

    An annual e-government forum will be officially opened tonight at the Isa Cultural Centre and National Library, in Juffair, Bahrain.

    The Bahrain International e-Government Forum 2011 is organised by the eGovernment Authority under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

    It will continue at the Gulf Hotel's Gulf Convention Centre tomorrow and Wednesday.

    Bahrain has become the only state from the Middle East to be recognised by the United Nations (UN) for outstanding progress in eGovernment.

  • Microsoft in deal with Bahrain

    Bahrain and Microsoft have signed an agreement under which the IT giant will provide technology solutions to the kingdom's E-Government project, scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

    The signing also coincided with the official opening of the Microsoft Bahrain office, Jean-Philippe Courtois, Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) said.

  • More than 10 countries seek to benefit from the Bahrain eGovernment experience

    Only two weeks after the announcement of the results of the United Nations report for the eGovernment readiness 2010, and the achievement of the Kingdom of Bahrain to a leading position which was not achieved by any Arab country before.

    Where Bahrain is now ranked thirteenth globally, third in Asia, and the first at the Arab, Gulf and Middle East level. More than 10 countries requested to benefit from the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the egovernment field , in order to help them develop government programs and achieve higher positions in the next United Nations report.

  • Multi-Language Online Service Center Kiosks Set For Launch In Bahrain

    Bahrain is set to become the first country in the Persian Gulf region to create multi-language contact centers that will offer various services from tracking the status of a service to a grievance redress system.

    Taking into consideration the sizeable population of foreign workers in the country, the national contact center will provide 150 services in three languages other than Arabic: English, Malayalam and Tagalog.

    The announcement came Monday during the e-governmental portal excellence award ceremony.

  • National Contact Centre to Create 200 Jobs for Bahrain Nationals

    The government plans to create 200 more jobs for the nationals with the establishment of National Contact Centre, worth BD109,500. Most of these jobs are expected to be filled by women candidates.

    The first-of-its-kind centre will be run by the Bahrain e-Government Authority. It aims to improve public access to government departments by providing a range of services under one roof — including information on office locations, document requirements, government procedures, laws and visa regulations, among other things, a statement highlighted last week.

  • New broadband push to transform Bahrain

    A National Broadband Network (NBN) to be available on an open access basis, at fair and reasonable prices, is a new government initiative to help transform Bahrain into a knowledge society, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed has said.

    The NBN will involve the laying of fibre optic cable to all homes, schools and businesses, providing a country-wide high-speed broadband network within the next three to five years, he said on the sidelines of the sixth edition of the MEET ICT conference and BITEX exhibition.

  • New contact centre firm launched in Bahrain

    Bahrain has launched a company that will offer contact centre services to public and private sectors and will also operate the National Contact Centre, which provides eGovernment’s integrated services.

    Silah Gulf is an addition to the other service delivery channels including the national portal (bahrain.bh), the mobile gateway and the eServices centres.

    Silah Gulf is one of the leading initiatives for the Bahrain government towards contributing to the national economy to develop employment opportunities for Bahrainis.

  • New online help service unveiled in Bahrain

    The drive is in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad to provide assistance to Bahraini families affected by the pandemic and alleviate their financial burdens during this exceptional situation.

    A new online service allowing people affected by Covid-19 to register through national platform Bahrain.bh has been launched.

  • New System for Domestic Workers to Be Launched in Bahrain

    The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) held a workshop for all employment agencies informing them about the new system and powers granted to the offices.

    Under the new system, employers can go to a recruitment agency approved by the LMRA, choose the worker and submit the application electronically.

  • New system to track municipal violations launched in Bahrain

    A system to monitor municipal violations and provide a comprehensive database of the offences was launched yesterday.

    Through a single electronic portal and electronic devices, it will also help check the status of existing violations and the whereabouts of inspectors.

  • Online passport renewal service launched in Bahrain

    An online passport renewal service was launched yesterday (December 11) by Bahrain’s Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) in conjunction with the e-Government Authority.

    Bahrainis can now apply for passport renewals and enquire about their passport application status online at www.bahrain.bh, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

  • Opposition Rejects e-Voting for Bahrain Polls

    e-voting in the 2010 polls has been opposed by the largest opposition group with biggest 
number of lawmakers in the lower house.

    Al Wefaq Political Society that won 16 out of 40 seats in 2006 election announced last week its rejection of e-voting out of fear of manipulation of results. The announcement was made in response to an articles in a local newspaper about the possibility of introducing the e-voting in the next election after it was cancelled in 2006 because of rejection by people.
