Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip says that the economic situation in the Baltic Sea states is among the best in the European Union, but the region's economic growth could be accelerated by cross-border environment-friendly infrastructure and a common energy and digital market.

"The long-term economic success of our region depends on linking our countries," Ansip said at the Baltic Sea States Development Forum in Copenhagen, as reported by the government's press service. He pointed out the Rail Baltica project that would expand markets for entrepreneurs, would create jobs and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Mit Estland hat ein weiteres EU-Mitgliedsland ein Behördenfunknetz auf Basis des Tetra-Standards in Betrieb genommen, das von EADS errichtet wurde. Im "Estonian Public Safety Digital Mobile Trunked Radio Network" (EDTN) getauften Netz funken zunächst 4.000 Tetra-Geräte. In der Endausbaustufe sollen es 7.000 in dem baltischen Staat sein, der rund 1,3 Millionen Einwohner und etwas mehr Fläche als Niedersachsen hat.

The Baltic Challenge award looks for the best ICT solutions and applications in the Baltic Sea region that improve daily life for citizens and customers of public administrations, educational institutions, businesses and other organizations.

Yesterday, the 2007 winners were celebrated on the Tallinn, Estonia, Song Festival Grounds, as part of Baltic Innovation Week and the InnoEstonia Conference. The celebration of winners was the highlight of the two-day conference, including a workshop for the Baltic Challenge network, consisting of participating projects, the members of the international jury and managing partners, together with an exhibition of selected ICT projects.
